E.E Cummings Inspired Halloween Shoot

As a literature major, one of my all-time favorite poets is ee cummings, so you can imagine my delight in seeing the use of his poem “i carry your heart with me” in many a wedding these days. Babb Photo took this very poem as inspiration for this styled shoot, completed with the help of the talented Always Andri and Boutique Blooms.

From the photographer, Laura of Babb Photo: This shoot was inspired by a series of still life pictures of real hearts tied with ribbon. The use of anatomically correct hearts, along with the ee cummings quote “I carry your heart with me, I carry it in my heart” was the starting point for the shoot’s styling. Weddings are all about two hearts finding each other but this is often depicted by the symbolic red heart, rather than showing the realism of an actual heart.

To counteract the slightly macabre feel of using anatomically correct organs, we wanted the rest of the styling to be beautiful and luxurious. Rich fabrics, pewter, and touches of luxury were used to counterbalance the Gothic feel and Asylum London, a former chapel Peckham made the perfect backdrop with opulent stained glass windows set against crumbling plaster. Our main aim was to show that edgy and luxurious can go hand in hand with beautiful results. You can achieve a high end, elegant alternative feel.
