Contemporary La Jolla Wedding
When you’ve got a bride who’s heavily engrossed in the art world, it’s a safe bet her wedding is going to be a thing of beauty. Such is the case with this lovely day from Jacqueline Schlossman / READYLUCK, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events, and The Dainty Lion. There was no shortage of modern decor and jewel toned accents, all coming together for a look that’s fresh and stylish.
From the event designers, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events: Nicole and Davey are probably the most low maintenance couple I’ve ever worked with. When we met, their only request was to help create a colorful, contemporary wedding, filled with purples, oranges and pinks. It’s not surprising given their background. Nicole’s family is from England and heavily involved in the La Jolla, CA art world – Nicole owns an art gallery; her mother, Margaret Jackson, is an avid art collector and serves on the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla; and, her father owns Cavallo Vintage Motorsports. Getting to work with such an artistic family as well as so many different gem-tones was brilliant, and really inspired the rest of the décor for their wedding.
Being right on the Pacific ocean, the couple wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy the beautiful view and get a real sense of the breathtaking downtown La Jolla (aptly named since it means ‘jewel’ in Spanish). The ceremony was held at St. James by the Sea and the 300+ person reception followed at the La Jolla Country Club. While the Club has beautiful Spanish bones, we wanted to offset the more traditional feel. So, we created a modern vibe through custom Osborne & Little table runners, black and white La Tavola linens accented with gold sequins, bright pops of floral, specialty Casa de Perrin flatware, brightly colored butterfly name cards at each of the place settings, and a family-style food service, all while paying homage to the character of the venue with vintage wood tables and mirrors.
Following dinner, we laid out the spectacular display of Michele Coulon sweet treats – each bonbon a little jewel itself! And finally, guests bid the couple goodbye with sparklers as Nicole and Davey sped away in their sky blue vintage Aston Martin getaway car. Color was infused all throughout the decor and kept the space feeling light and bright. With so many people in attendance, the colorful palette also helped to keep the event wonderfully intimate and fun. Being a part of this wedding was so special, and getting to witness the love that these two have for each other and their families, was so meaningful. Their personalities were spotlighted throughout, my favorite being the illuminated “LOVE” marquee sign on the mantelpiece above the head table, which for me added the cherry on top of this perfectly, colorful day!
