Colorful Wedding at Terrain
No matter how many times we see rain on a wedding day, it never appears to put a damper on the newlyweds’ faces. Amanda and Rich were all smiles for their color-filled wedding day at Terrain at Styer’s, one of our very own long-time favorite venues! Ruffled vendor danfredo photos + films nailed it behind the camera, while Fresh Designs Florist brought the bride’s dream floral visions to life.
From the bride, Amanda: My husband Rich and I visited Terrain, our venue, for a coffee several months before we got engaged. We loved how beautiful, rustic, and romantic it was while also feeling laid back and cozy. Terrain’s vibe informed much of our wedding planning. We knew we wanted to get married, and we knew that we wanted all of our guests to really enjoy celebrating with us and to feel like they were a part of something special too. As we planned, we tried to imagine our wedding from the perspective of our guests and make everything as easy and fun as possible.
Flower recipe: Peonies, garden roses, pink hydrangea, tulips, aster, queen anne’s lace — we asked for a botanical look. Our florist was amazing! We met with one or two florists who told us they couldn’t do our flowers for our budget, but Sue at Fresh Designs Florist nailed the look we desired within budget. She also suggested the milk glass for the reception which was a really nice touch.
I would describe our wedding as romantic, rustic, and rainy! Seriously, it poured and poured and poured. For hours. We had planned to be married outside, but our rain plan called for us to be married inside of the greenhouse just off of where our reception would be. The rain on the roof — as well as the standing room only space — resulted in the ceremony being really intimate in such a lovely and unexpected way. In terms of color schemes, we went with shades of pinks and mints. I gave my bridesmaids a J.Crew color palette and a list of fabrics and then let them pick the dresses that would suit each woman best. Who knows if they will ever wear their dresses again, but at least everyone had a dress she liked and in which she looked beautiful for the day. I was really happy with how the mix-and-match look came together in the end.
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Enjoy it! We had a great time choosing reception songs together, tasting cakes, and meeting our fabulous photographers over beers. My husband told me to add that you should get to know your vendors and make sure you like them — our photographers were so great the day of the wedding (Danielle got soaked taking rainy shots where we stayed dry), but they were also really helpful in directing us to other vendors and helping us nail down the right timeline for our wedding day. I would also encourage couples to use Instagram. We got so many good ideas looking at pictures of other people’s weddings. AND I found my wedding dress on Instagram, after having already tried on a dozen dresses in boutiques. I saw a picture of my dress and then called dress retailers in the area until I found a store that carried it. The research paid off.
Of course, don’t miss the highlights from danfredo photos + films:
Wedding Music:
Prelude: “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” The Verve (performed by Vitamin String Quartet)
Processional: “Use Somebody,” Kings of Leon (performed by Vitamin String Quartet)
Bride’s Processional: “Sweet Disposition,” The Temper Trap (performed by Vitamin String Quartet)
My dad, John Jarrard, was a country music songwriter who passed away when I was 16. In one of the most meaningful parts of the ceremony, our friend Ben Mayer covered the first number one song my dad wrote, a love song called “Nobody But You,” performed by Don Williams. My dad had sung that song at my cousin Joe’s wedding when I was a four year old flower girl, and the lyrics are really sweet. It worked as a way to celebrate our marriage and to celebrate my dad and our family, all in one song.
Recessional: “Home,” Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros
Postlude: “Beautiful Day,” U2
First Dance: “Into the Mystic,” Van Morrison
I love those bouquets! The pop of color gives the whole wedding such a fun vibe. Beautiful!
