Runway to Tablescape: Haute Couture Fashion Inspired Wedding
If you can’t seem to decide between a contemporary and timeless wedding style, why not choose both? A fab team of DC wedding creatives, including a couple Ruffled vendors, came together for their annual runway to table styling session where they melded texture, structure and a monochromatic color scheme in the most seamless way. Inspired by haute couture fashion designers you’d recognize immediately (did someone say Oscar de la Renta?), these innovative designs equal art at its finest.
Lisa Blume delights in the dramatic, and her fine art captures give us a sense of Old Hollywood glamour… I know we’re not the only ones will get some major Audrey Hepburn vibes!
Elizabeth Duncan Events styled the scene to perfection, with 3 distinct bridal looks that spanned the most romantic (and free-spirited) decades. And how amazing are those abstract backdrops forming twisty pillars to the sky?

Amaryllis brought excitement to this black and white table through sharp geometric lines, textured anthuriums, burgundy accents, free-standing menus and soft candlelight. We’re obsessed with the lucite chairs (who isn’t?), and those fierce as all get-out blooms!
With diverse hairstyles from Remona Soleimani and bold makeup from Carl Ray, this gal is like a Hollywood icon in the flesh.
And where does this impeccable bridal fashion come from, you ask? Carine’s Atelier is to thank! From the strapless embroidered statement gown with a tulle overskirt to the silver metallic jumpsuit, we’re hooked.
From the photographer, Lisa Blume: Each year, we collaborate with a stellar team to design an original wedding inspired by the season’s fashion runway trends. We predict these trends will, ultimately, become widely popular with brides and wedding pros alike.
Runway trends in 2018:
- Bold black and white contrasts
- Surrealism
- Dramatic headpieces
- Fish scale pattern
- Texture
- Liquid silver
Designers of particular inspiration include: Dior, Balmain, Valentino, Maison Margiela, Viktor & Rolf, Oscar de La Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier, Guo Pei, Iris van Herpfen
For this year’s design, we specifically wanted to contrast the nostalgic beauty of black and white photography with contemporary black and white event design. A completely custom space was created by Amaryllis, incorporating playful black and white contrasting patterns and unusual textures. This sensational design is ideal for the bride who wants a wedding combining timeless beauty with of the moment design.
