This Modern Gold Wedding Dress Was Inspired By Disney’s Belle
Fairytale bliss is our current state of mind thanks to this sophisticatedly modern twist on a beloved classic. Yep, I’m talking about Disney’s Beauty & The Beast, whose heroine Belle wore a sweeping gold wedding dress that we’ve honestly been thinking about on a daily basis since 1999. Creative dreamer and all-around visionary Kimi Arya Events, sought to re-vitalize the enchanting love story we all hold so dear through modern takes on stand-out details from the color palette to the sweet treats… why yes, you might even see some grey stuff!
The bride stuns in her off-the-shoulder gown with whimsical ruffles, sheer sleeves and a ruby + gold shimmer that honestly couldn’t be more perfect. Paired with Manolo Blahnik heels and hand-crafted brass floral hairpins, this modern take on Belle is *chef’s kiss* exquisite. Floralizing the scene with a daring blend of classic roses and flirty peonies is Rikki Marcone. The result? A surprisingly playful approach to the blooms that softened and romanticized the decor altogether with a modern audience in mind! Whether you’re a child of the 90’s or a hopeless romantic, these fine art images from Maureen Im Photography are sure to muster magical feelings in your heart!
From the Planner, Kimi Arya Events: One evening on a drive home, my friend Adwoa and I landed on the topic of the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella musical on the Wonderful World of Disney show. We raved over how incredible the movie was and how special it was to see such a diverse cast of young women, especially of colour. Our conversation reminded me how important representation is, especially at a young age, and how being able to relate and see yourself in these fantastic stories encourages you to believe in your dreams and that you can become anything you want.
To celebrate the recent 30th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast, Kimi Arya Events in collaboration with Maureen Im Photography pulled together an all-female team to create an editorial in honour of “a tale as old as time”. We wanted to incorporate romantic, old world French design with modern touches and special nods to our favourite parts of the movie. The colour palette consisted of the classic combination of gold and reds with Palm Springs inspired tones of bright yellow, coral, and touches of blue.
Rikki Marcone Floral and Event Design worked her floral magic and created an Eden of classic roses while adding a contemporary feel through the lines, textures, and complimentary flowers. For the reception space, we created a very intimate yet ornate and modern tablescape set against the old-world French-inspired room of The Ruby Manor. The juxtaposition of the classic gold finishes of the décor and glasses against the modern blue goblets and honey-yellow plates really emulated the concept of old versus new.
The stationery by We Go Moo featured various textures such as vellum and pillowy letterpress, a series of different typography, and pops of colour. References to names, quotes and dates (if you know, you know!) on the stationery made the paper goods extra fun and special.
Custom drinks were handcrafted by a mixologist from Settin’ The Bar while Love in Bloom Cakes baked up the most whimsical cake and treats that featured gooseberries; making an ode to the movie itself.
The Fairyland Gown by Gemy Maalouf from Fitzroy sparkled in the light and was the perfect combination of a classic silhouette with sleeves in a modern fabric. Eminent Allure painted a bold yet flawless look on the model, while accentuating her natural features. Dainty jewelry from Meg Lizabet and hair pieces from The Loved One tied the entire vision together, making the model look and feel like a real-life princess.
Maureen Im Photography immaculately captured the details with her light and joyful aesthetic. The colourful and bold, yet soft accents perfectly emulated the romantic ambiance through her images.
While this editorial is meant to inspire, spark your imagination, and to try the grey stuff (it’s delicious!), our intention is to show you that anything is possible. Just like these Disney fairy tales, at any age, you can open your eyes and be exactly who you want to be!
Wasn’t she an absolute vision?! While we’re no strangers to modern weddings inspired by Disney classics, Marielle swept through this Old World French scene in her Belle inspired wedding dress with grace, poetry and true radiance. And quite frankly, we’ll be thinking about this moment longer than we ever did the cartoon classic.
