Colorful Agricultural Center Wedding in Marfa
If you ask us, today’s wedding almost runs more along the side of “amazing dance party” than it does any sort of traditional wedding, and we positively love it. Newlyweds Josh and Betsy even performed a choreographed first dance, arranged by an Emmy-nominated choreographer! Let’s take a peek at the bright + fun images from Mandee Johnson, with beautiful coordination and flowers from Magic Hour Marfa.
From the photographer, Mandee Johnson: Josh and Betsy first discovered Marfa on a cross-country road trip. They stayed in a teepee at hotel El Cosmico, saw the Marfa Lights and immediately fell in love with the art, people, and wide open sky. Aiming to keep their wedding to be fun and casual they went looking for the perfect backdrop that would bring images from Terrence Malick’s films to mind. They found the spot in a field, mowed a path, set up a champagne trailer, brought in bleachers and rolled out a colorful welcome mat for the guests arriving via school bus.
The reception was held next door at the agricultural center – dirt floor and all. Magic Hour Marfa worked with their designer, Outfit Home and local vendors to bring their vibrant vision to life. Flying colorful Picado Banners and string lights in the rafters above the custom built tables dotted with local gemstones, succulents and hand printed runners. Add a piñata, fantastic Mexican food from Chef Krista Steinhauer + beautiful live music by the truly amazing all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Las Coronelas and you have yourselves a party!
From the bride, Betsy: What was your favorite memory from your wedding day? We’d planned to do an outdoor screening of one of our favorite movies, Raising Arizona, after our rehearsal dinner. But during the meal, a West Texas thunderstorm blew through town. The night could’ve been over, but our amazing wedding coordinators negotiated to open up a local theater. We screened the movie while rain poured outside. It was rad.
