Bright Wedding in Arizona Complete with a Surprise Rainbow

If you think Arizona is only filled with cacti, think again! This bright and colorful wedding in Arizona is filled with gorgeous peonies that quite literally cascade off the head table. The Country Club at DC Ranch set the floral stage with it’s gorgeous bougainvillea filled wall which created the natural backdrop for all of the flower goodness by Molly Taylor & Co. With a mixture of rain and sunshine throughout the day, Kendra & Kevin had a beautiful rainbow make an appearance on their wedding day which only added to their beautifully colorful decor. Soak in all the colors of the rainbow with this stunning wedding captured by Rachel Solomon Photography.

From the bride, Kendra: Kevin and I both grew up in Ohio, but met and live in Chicago. While we love both places, we always knew we wanted to have a destination wedding. Kevin’s family has a home in Scottsdale and over the years has become one of Kevin’s favorite places in the world and subsequently has become mine! Between the nearly constant sunshine to the beautiful landscapes and desert flora, I fell in love immediately.

Shortly after our engagement, we spent some time in Scottsdale and planned to look at several wedding venues. We looked at three total, all were lovely, but the feeling of knowing when we walked into the open air courtyard of The Country Club at DC Ranch was overwhelming. It was beautiful, picturesque, colorful, whimsical and intimate. From the bougainvillea covered wall, to the trickling fountain, large stone fireplace and fairytale like tree covered in twinkle lights, we knew this was where we were going to have our wedding. It was everything we had been looking for.

Fast-forward a year and a half to the day of the wedding, where our friends and family gathered to celebrate our marriage at our beautiful venue. We were married on a newly renovated lawn surrounded by the stunning McDowell Mountains with rain clouds on the horizon and the sun peeking through. I was originally very bummed about the potential for bad weather, however, the rain mixed with the sun gave way to the most amazing rainbow photo, which we will forever cherish.

Given that the scenery and location were already so exquisite, we went the “less is more” route in regards to décor, and kept things simple. Having grown up with a mom who is a florist, I have a love for flowers that I really wanted to shine through on the wedding day. My only request to the floral crew were coral charm peonies and purple sweet peas, two of my favorite flowers. Aside from that, I let them take the wheel and what they created for our day exceeded all of my wildest expectations.

With rose petals down the aisle and floral pieces surrounding the ceremony, it created the perfect space for us to get married. We went with all ivory linens for the reception space, so the bright and colorful flowers would really pop. For the kings table, we chose large, wooden, farmhouse tables, which were adorned with a floral runner and cascading floral “waterfall”, my favorite aspect of the floral design. I’ve always loved candles and wanted many on the tables to compliment the twinkle lights strung from the large tree.

We worked with Sharon at DC Ranch on all aspects of the wedding. She helped us pick a fun and different southwestern style menu, which was a perfect match to the location and something that Kevin and I really wanted. In addition, we opted out of having a traditional wedding cake and went with a variety of mini desserts, which all turned out wonderfully. We have received so many compliments on how fun and unique the guests thought the food was, so we are very happy we did something less traditional. We used gold, cactus bottles openers as the escort cards, which also was a hit.
