Aaryn + Paul’s Rooftop Wedding

Aaryn and Paul’s rooftop wedding by Noa of Feather Love Photography was absolutely bananas! The elegant art deco design of the venue and jaw dropping views of Los Angeles were pure perfection. The majority of this wedding was a labor of love by Aaryn, Paul and their bridal party. One of Aaryn’s bridesmaids designed her gorgeous wedding dress, Paul designed and printed all of their stationery, and the flowers were arranged by Aaryn and her lovely ladies. Pretty impressive, huh?

From the bride, Aaryn:

On June 20, 2008 we had a tiny ceremony on the roof of my friend’s apartment building in West Hollywood. Kate, my bridal dress-maker and bridesmaid, was our minister during that ceremony.

So when it came time to plan our second and more traditional wedding we thought it only natural that we might have another rooftop wedding. I found an amazing venue located in Downtown Los Angeles that provides such a venue! Not only is the rooftop view of Downtown’s financial district breathtaking, but the original 1928 Art Deco architecture and decor weren’t too shabby.

My wedding dress was designed by one of my best friends and bridesmaids, Kate Kolb.

The colors for the wedding were purple and green, with the bridesmaids all wearing unique dresses in shades of purple.

We wanted our wedding to be colorful with an upscale Art Deco setting, a mixed-print floral theme and lots of DIY flare.

Because we are both graphic designers, we wanted to do a lot of the projects for the wedding ourselves. Paul works in the web-print-game world of graphics and I work in apparel doing textiles and tee shirts, so we tried to combine our talents and create an event that was true to our styles.

A few months before the wedding I took a floral design class at Glendale Community College. I designed the look of the bouquets and had my bridesmaids assist me in making all the bouquets, boutonneires and table arrangements.

Invitations and Place cards Designed and handmade by Paul and I. Home screen printing for all paper stationary was done using Gocco.

Some advice from Aaryn:

Give yourself lots of time to plan everything, but make sure you are able to let go of anxiety as the day approaches, it’s all about having a good time.
