Picturesque Iceland Waterfall Elopement at the Skógafoss
Ashleigh and Sam’s Iceland waterfall elopement at the Skógafoss seems like a fanciful dream. They pledged their love for one another between the mountains and the sea, and we were immediately taken with these images from With Love & Embers Photography that tell their story. We love the raw emotion and joy captured in these small moments, and it’s a good reminder that the essence of this new beginning is the deep feelings shared and the excitement for this next journey together. So prepare to get weepy in the best kind of way! These pics will sure do it.
From the bride, Ashleigh: Sam and I met in high school, but our romance didn’t happen until about 5 years later. We had an all-consuming love, which really has continued into our long-term relationship. We have been through so much together in the 8 short years we have spent together, which has really helped cement our relationship and has made us appreciate one another in a way that you would think only true in movies.
Our decision to elope was inspired by the journey we had been through together, knowing that we would always be okay if we had one another, we wanted a day which celebrated that. Just the two of us, in love. Having a big wedding never seemed to be the right fit for us. An important part for us was that our families were understanding of our desire to elope, when we had their acceptance we knew that it was the right decision. Our families knew that it was something that we felt we needed to do and they respected that completely.
Iceland was on the top of both of our bucket lists which really made the location a no-brainer. The scenery, wildlife and exquisite locations is exactly what we were hoping for on our special day.
Through a little bit of googling I fell upon a young couple from With Love and Embers who had photographed the most beautiful wedding photos I had ever seen, truly. I immediately emailed them explaining our story and decision to elope, believing that there would be no way we could be so lucky to be able to snatch up such a talented pair, but was pleasantly surprised when I got a response which explained their excitement of possibly travelling to Iceland to shoot our elopement.
Everything else just kind of fell into place, the hair and makeup, Sam’s suit, my dress, the flowers. We had the perfect set up.
The day itself flew by, the ceremony was set in front of the Skógafoss waterfall. The ceremony felt so intimate and personal. We continued along the coast for the afternoon and evening taking photos in the most beautiful and breathtaking places, It was so much fun. Ryan and Jill made us feel so comfortable having our photo taken the whole day.
It was a day that we will both always remember, it truly felt so special. We both feel so lucky to have had such a dream wedding day, we couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
