Ballet-Inspired Editorial in an Urban Loft Studio

One word came to mind when we laid eyes on this urban ballet-inspired editorial from Lisa Silva Photography: grace. In the movement, the color palette and especially the details. Every piece of this shoot feels like a vision from heaven, and we can’t get enough of the contrast between the organic petals + trailing vines with the torn plaster walls. The bride’s cross-back gown flows in the wind and is matched in brilliance by taupe velvet ribbons, vintage wax seals and subtle marbled details throughout.

From the photographer, Lisa Silva: I have always loved ballet. I’ve never been much of a dancer (although tried when I was younger) but I have always enjoyed watching ballet and find it absolutely beautiful. I have been wanting to incorporate the ballet into a bridal editorial style shoot for a while now and the timing was perfect for this shoot with some wonderful talents that came together.

I contacted Amanda Koerber, who is an amazing planner, stylist, and florist, and told her about my idea. I was happily surprised to learn that Amanda had previously danced for years and she was excited to work on this concept with me. We envisioned a look that was romantic but also not overly feminine. DeLo Studios was the perfect space for this. It is located in downtown Jacksonville, FL, and has large galleries with great window light, original wood flooring, and textured walls that give the urban feel we were looking for. Event Decor and More by Carla brought in rentals including a sweetheart table, love seat, cake table, and vintage sofa. She draped them with different fabrics and decorated with candlesticks and more to add to the romantic feel.

Going into the Fall/Winter season, we wanted our shoot to reflect it and chose a warm color palette of champagne, mauve, salmon, and dark grey. We used mixed metal accents throughout the shoot that are shown in the rings, flatware, and other details. I really like the “concrete cake” trend and For The Love of Cake baked us a beautiful grey concrete cake that Amanda then topped with florals, berries, and a little greenery. The flowers were one of my favorite parts of this shoot! The bouquet, centerpiece, and other florals were made of dahlias, garden roses, ranunculus, white anemones, and more, but the real show stopper was the king protea in the bridal bouquet that looked like a ballet slipper!

Last but not definitely least, we used Brittney Bailey and Ryan Russell, an adorable real couple, as our bride and groom. Brittney is a trained ballet dancer and brought her own point shoes to wear with the champagne Truevelle Bridal gown that we borrowed from One Fine Day Bridal Salon. Brush Salon created a soft and feminine makeup look and styled Brittney’s long blonde hair in loose curls to help give a sense of movement as Brittney twirled around DeLo.

I was over the moon when I received the film scans from this shoot and everything came out even more beautiful then I had imagined. We truly had the perfect vendors and couple for this shoot. I feel like we perfectly conveyed our vision and I hope we inspire some real brides to incorporate ballet into their wedding day style.
