Mid-Century San Francisco Wedding
This wedding from Josh Gruetzmacher is pretty great. With a stylish couple who both designed their own outfits and who have grown in love and business as Dearhorn, a creative design team, how could this wedding be anything but superb? Keep an eye peeled for the first look at the cutest of locations, the groom’s favorite comic book store!
From the bride, Jenn: Mid-Century American Vintage-inspired Garden Party best describes our wedding aesthetic. Colors: Watermelon, Succulent Green, and Soft Pink. The stunning structure and garden of Sunnyside Conservatory was our inspiration for the look and feel of our afternoon ceremony and reception. We had a hand in everything, right down to the design of our tailor-made guipure-lace dress and shawl-collared suit. Our save the dates, invitations, pie topper, and table signage were all designed and illustrated by the groom. The delicious beer was provided as a trade for label design by the groom. From wedding coordination, homemade pies, flower arrangements, ceremony music, hair and makeup, and a clever Macbook photo booth, our friends and family contributed to most of the wedding details.
Our first look was inside Daniel’s favorite comic book store in their neighborhood. I suggested this location to honor our years together in creative collaboration. As Dearhorn Studio, we have joined in many projects involving design, illustration, and video. The name Dearhorn is a combination of our two last names, Heard and Dorn. This name can also be found hanging above us as we said our vows, signifying our biggest collaboration yet.
Our stylish guests dressed in hats and coats, braved the chilly San Francisco’s unpredictable summer weather to order from the caterer parked outside the front gate. We wanted to provide a fulfilling lunch for our vegan and vegetarian guests, and the ladies of Ebbett’s Good To Go provided a delicious sandwich menu to satisfy all. I particularly enjoyed the cupcake of mac and cheese. Pies were cut and tables were cleared for dancing to our Britpop playlist. And each guest departed with a jar of watermelon jelly made by the groom’s mother.
The day went by so fast. One of our best decisions was to hire Josh Gruetzmacher to capture all the details that flew by us. He even drove us to our wedding!
