Romantic Coastal California Wedding Inspiration

Whenever we know images of the California coast are coming our way, we know we’re in for some ridiculous pretty — and all the more so when Tyler Rye Photography, SmittenKiss Weddings and Events, and Vo Floral Design are involved. This team of vendors put together a workshop at Point Reyes, capturing pretty design and moments in time as only they could!

From SmittenKiss Weddings and Events: I was born and raised in California and in my 34 years of walking this earth, I can honestly admit that I have only explored about 50% of the state. While words like “Hollywood” and “Liberals” were the fastest to come to one’s mind, let’s not forget the natural beauties that California has gifted us. We are known for the rolling hills of wine country, and the sunny beaches of San Diego. Outdoor enthusiasts talk of amazing hikes in Yosemite and Big Sur but it wasn’t until I visited the Northern Coast of California, did I finally understand what beauty was.

I met Tyler Rye mid-2016 and quickly moved on the opportunity in pulling his 3-day workshop together. As I got to know Tyler, I knew that he loved a neutral palette, but outside of the neutral points, I wanted to introduce some modern aspects into the design as well. Tyler is known for capturing love in the most breathtaking places and so when he chose Point Reyes, I knew that we had to find the perfect balance between the steep cliffs of this Northern coast, and the 200 year old wooden cottages. Remote areas with little developments are carefully preserved and so it feels that you are looking at an image straight from a National Geographic publication.

None of my visions are ever complete without the presence of Vo Floral Design. Trang Vo and I share similar aesthetics and so creating with her is always easy and fun. I can have a million things running in my head, but Trang solidifies the look with her floral creation. We knew that we needed the right balance between nature and our pretty little details. Too much greenery and it would be lost in translation; too many objects, and the look would be overstated. We pulled together an awesome array of talent; from a lightly dressed water colored cake to a handwritten love letter from England, everything came together quite beautifully. The furniture was rustic along with the backdrop, but the 1930’s depression plates and glassware couldn’t have looked any better on the contemporary gold burst chargers. As the fog came rolling in, we were frozen by it’s mysterious beauty and silenced by the chilly air. Watching Tyler work always captivates me, he is intensely focused and I was dying to see through his lens. At the end of it all, the one thing I knew, was that beauty is found in the most simple form. But it’s easily washed away unless you have a great photographer to capture it all. I hope these images show you what we all felt on that 14th day of March… just simply breathtaking and imprinted perfectly into our minds for years to come.
