DIY Polka Dot Bottles
We have been on a polka dot obsession lately. So much that this project popped up while finishing our preparations for our table for the The Cream Event NYC. Using masking tape and a paper punch I had in my drawer, I gave old bottles a new life. What better way to shake things up than with confetti? You can try this on pretty much anything that’s in need of some polka dot cheer!
bottles, vases, jars, cups
masking tape
hole punch
spray paint
If you’re painting the interior of your bottles like I did, start by pouring paint in your clear glass vessels. Shake them to cover the interior and let them dry upside down. Though it would look just as fab with clear glass 🙂
While the bottles are drying, start punching holes in the masking tape. You can anchor the end of the tape on the edge of your desk while you work on your polka dot. No need to follow a pattern – just punch holes randomly. Once the bottles are dry from the paint in them, wrap the dotted masking tape and cover the rest of the bottle with solid tape. Spray paint. Let it dry for a few minutes and gently peel the tape away. I was able to reuse the masking tape a few times on other bottles, so as long as you can remove the tape without ripping, you can definitely use the same dotted strip again.
What a great and simple idea! I love it!
Love this idea! Has great texture and depth!
Ooh WOW!! These are incredible!!!! Love it!
This is so cute. I actually have confetti from the cream event and was wondering what fun things I could use it for. This is a pretty way to do so!
What type of paint did you use to paint the interior of the bottle?
I used some leftover latex paint I had from painting my closets (flat “Decorator’s White” by Behr)
Hope this helps!
Very lovely! Thanks for sharing!
What a great idea!! Let me think…what else can I “polka dot” later?? 😉
because the inside is painted, you will not be able to put water in the vase, correct?
Lovely. And so simple.
I think using an oil paint would let you use the jar as a vase.
I’m going to try this on glass Christmas ornaments.
What a lovely idea! And it seems to be so easy. Great!
Great idea! creates a lovely effect.
I also have a great DIY centerpiece project I would love to share with Ruffled’s DIY fans.
It shows you step by step How to Arrange Flowers on a Candelabra (you know those candle holders that hold lots of candles)
I would love to give Ruffled fans a FREE copy of this DIY e-book
Can you tell me where I can submit the link so they can download it?
These are really pretty, well done! I’ll try it. I’ve also made something similar, but I used some nail polish and a dotting tool 😉 You can see for yourself if you want: https://audreysglams.blogspot.gr/2014/05/diy-glam-up-your-vase.html
I have so many of those glass vases that come with gifted flowers that aren’t all that stylish yet I really don’t just want to toss them in the trash.I’ve been looking for ideas for how to make them over into something I would actually use. Thank you for the inspiration!
So cute. :3
This is a fantastic way to decorate tables at our wedding! We are considering handing out sparklers to each guest to make a unique sparkler exit. If we bought our sparklers at https://weddingsparklers.com/ at wholesale pricing and then made these table centerpieces to hand them out, it would be a cheap fun way to make our wedding unique!
