Old World Segovia Wedding

Old World Segovia Wedding

From gorgeous bohemian weddings, to authentic Old World nuptials, Spain has it all covered under the wedding sun. When Marta told us about a wedding that was held in a monastery, we knew we had to share it with you all! Marta Machín of Marlett designed an amazing day full of romantic details sure to inspire any couple.

From the event designer, Marta Machín of Marlett: Sara and Manu’s wedding took place in a private owned restored monastery in a village in Segovia, north of Madrid. The groom’s family comes from this village so the venue had a very special meaning to them both. The groom’s grandfather who was very close to him and just recently passed away used to walk from the village to the monastery every afternoon, and his grandson very often joined him.

The bride was very involved with the planning and the design, specially with the color palette. She wanted soft hued colors, mainly peach and cream, with hints of stronger colors. Being a forestal engineer, she wanted something that spoke of her love of trees and gardens. We chose to inspire ourselves in the botanical gardens of the monastery, all tables were named after herbs used in the monk’s pharmacy and we used these herbs throughout the decor, which had a romantic, rustic vibe.

Though held in the morning, the church was filled with candles that created an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy in the empty knave. We wanted to welcome the guests and make them part of the ceremony, and bring light to the wonderful empty space. The bride, wearing a custom made Basaldua silk gown and veil and her grandmother’s earrings entered the church surrounded by candles and paused a moment before continuing her walk along the aisle.

Afterwards the guests moved to the old cloister for the outdoor cocktail and again moved to the monks’ pantry for the lunch. It was the perfect spring day and everyone enjoyed the perfect weather, sitting in the garden after lunch for drinks and partying.

The bride was so mesmerized by the decor that she surprised me the following day by showing up to clean and pick up so she could see and take in everything at a slower pace.
