Charming British Countryside Wedding

It’s no secret how much I love British weddings, and you can’t blame me. The quaint churches, a lush countryside complete with moody skies, it pretty much sums up what my dream wedding would look like if I were to plan it again. With Tyler Branch Photography on location to capture Maria and Nick’s nuptials, it was a no brainer their wedding was going to be one for the books. See all of the images from their wedding in the gallery for oodles more.

From the bride, Maria: Nick and I met at a speak-easy called 86, in Los Angeles almost 4 years ago. He was English, and in a touring band…pretty much the guy your dad warned you about. Clearly, I had my own ideas about who to avoid, and so our love story began. We fell in love at the same place we met only weeks before, listening to Wonderwall on the car radio outside the bar. Two years later, Nick surprised me with a trip to Paris for Christmas, where he proposed to me with a ring that he designed himself, and his uncle hand made. At that moment, it felt like we were alone in Paris – like we had it all to ourselves. It was beautiful and perfect.

Nick and I lived together in Los Angeles for 3 years, and when we found out we were having a little baby boy, we decided to make the move to Nick’s home town of Haslington, in the Cheshire countryside. We decided to have the wedding here in England, making it a half-destination wedding! We knew we wanted it to be DIY, because we wanted it to look and feel just like us…cool and clever with some interesting character – some romance, a little tradition and most of all, FUN! That started the hours upon months I spent scouring blogs, thrift stores, antique markets, auction houses, Ebay, Etsy and my future in-laws house for cool stuff and inspiration.

We were married in our local church, St. Philips. It is the most beautiful little pink church, full of character and quirkyness. The church was originally bought from Harrods in London as a flat pack! In 1883, the church was built, and moved by horse and cart to the location it is still in today. The music for the ceremony was very special to us. The wedding party and I walked down to “Air A.M.”, a song composed for me by Nick – it was beautiful. We also had a mandolin player to accompany the hymns we chose.
