Soho Wedding with Modern and Industrial Touches

Kate and Steve met nearly 15 years ago in a school play, and after years of dating, time apart, and reconciliation, Steve asked Kate to be his bride. The couple moved from San Francisco to New York City and married each other in the heart of Soho, where their modern-meets-industrial wedding wowed us all. From the event designer, Michelle of Michelle Elaine Weddings Inc.: Meeting at their high school play, almost 15 years ago, Kate & Steve never imagined they’d end up getting married to one another. Two years after that inevitable meeting was their first date. While Kate thought Steve was a great guy, she had living to do, college, traveling, adventures; marriage was certainly not on her mind. Four years quickly passed by and fate brought Kate & Steve together again, reconnecting while in Edinburgh, Scotland. This was when they began to realize perhaps this is something greater. Not long after, Kate joined Steve in San Francisco to live together. June 2012, Steve got down on one knee and asked Kate to marry him. Later that year they were off to New York City and decided that this must be where they start the next big chapter in their lives together.

They are probably one of the most unique couples I have ever worked with. Rather than a “first look,” Steve hung out in the hotel suite as Kate got hair & make up done. He showed her the shoes he had bought earlier that day and they were like two perfect peas in a pod just living another happy day together. The décor and aesthetic were created with a mix of the wonderful history they share from their one of a kind save the date to inspiring ideas from other weddings and of course Pinterest! We worked together to create a modern and industrial vibe with clean lines on the tables and gold and silver spray painted dinosaurs as number holders, all while keeping some softness for the wedding with lush white peonies and some greenery for accents as centerpieces down the long, wooden family style tables. The restaurant had it’s own characteristics to work off of & helped pull our design ideas together as one.

The look & feel was to say “New York!” with a touch of Kate & Steve. Though it really said “Kate & Steve!” with a touch of New York. Their personal fashions coordinated more perfectly than imagined & they had a bit of that Mad Men style. Steve’s suit was custom made while Kate changed her mind last minute and thankfully we found the perfect gown just six weeks before the day! Kate & Steve are most certainly one of a kind and I believe they prefer it that way, because they are definitely one of a kind for each other.
