Sweetly Intimate Mountain Wedding

Michelle and Doug’s Oregon wedding was all about declaring their love in front of family and friends… and then making sure those family and friends had a great time! Set in the scenic Pacific Northwest mountains, the couple added endless homemade details made possible by loving family and talented friends. Thanks Mary and Joel of Blue Window Creative for sharing!

When Doug and I were planning our wedding we kept thinking “upscale barbeque.” The most important thing to us was that our family and friends would have fun, so we decided to have various activities available. The property of the Mount Hood Bed & Breakfast is spacious and spectacularly beautiful. It was so fun to watch people playing horseshoes, bean bag toss, and doing 3-legged sack races right up until dusk.

We used Mason jars instead of beer and wine glasses – each guest wrote their name on their jar and kept it with them all night. Seating assignments were done with simple gift tags and stamped numbers…Table numbers were simply tied to the flower centerpieces.

Instead of a guest book we had guests write a wish for us on “wish flags” that hung on a line with clothespins; our own Mt. Hood version of the Himalayan Prayer Flag. We liked the idea that the mountain winds would carry the wishes of our loved ones to us.

We didn’t have a formal wedding party. Instead, one of our favorite touches of the wedding was when my two nieces (age 13 and 4) pulled our 10-month old daughter down the aisle in a Radio Flyer wagon!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Borrow lots of ideas from wedding blogs! Don’t worry about anything on the day of the wedding, like weather or last minute details. At that point it’s out of your hands and all you can do is sit back and enjoy your day. It’s really true what people say – it goes by in the blink of an eye, so really savor every beautiful moment.
