Turbine Hall Wedding

We love when our brides come up with combinations that are unexpected, like a truly airy and bohemian wedding set in an industrial space. Stefan Norval of Afresh Event set to work making Lexi’s retro-meets-modern vision a reality, and we can tell by the images from Lad & Lass that the result was nothing short of a shining success.

From the bride, Lexi: Our wedding was held in a refurbished turbine factory in the middle of the city, it was very industrial and modern. We wanted to embrace the space and the city. I envisioned a chic industrial wedding but with an ethereal, natural and bohemian streak to counter the hard space. I imagined something like a swinging 30s or 40s shindig, dancing the night away in the moody underground bar and reception area lit only by candles but with soft and romantic elements running through.

Flower recipe: I wanted my bouquet to be wild, like I scooped it up on the way in. We used hydrangeas and ferns for that wild look and some other added greenery. My bridesmaids had headpieces made out of greenery and ferns and bouquets of hydrangeas. There were green hydrangeas at the ceremony, ferns draped over our awning. our reception has roses and a lot of greenery to create a forest feeling.

Our wedding was absolutely beautiful. It had an art deco feel, which was brought through in the industrial setting, invitations, and menus and also by our colour scheme which was navy blue, blushes and touches of gold. The bohemian and ethereal feeling was brought through in our ceremony, which was so different from the rest of the wedding, with our awning decorated by ribbons and ferns. The reception was like a magical underground forest with candles, tall overflowing vases and floral chandeliers. There was also a chic and elegant twist with mirrored flower boxes filled with roses. There was no DIY projects in the wedding as we both work and did not have time but I did custom order my gold leafed headpiece from Talia Savva at Scarlett.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? One of the things we learned was to go with your initial feelings! A few times we met with vendors who were lovely people but just weren’t clicking with my ideas. I thought it would all work out if I just managed everything but it was very stressful. In the end we chose vendors who amazing people and absolutely shared my vision and I knew I could trust them to to create my dream day.
