Whimsical Michigan Wedding
I love today’s couple almost as much as I love their wedding. Jill DeVries shot this beautiful Michigan wedding in the woods, which was all the best that bohemian and DIY had to offer. The Stone Cold Fox was the mastermind behind bride Alyssa’s wedding dress — one after which we’re still swooning!
From the bride, Alyssa: I have always loved weddings, wedding photos, crafts, wedding blogs, and creative, DIY weddings. When I started dating my future groom, however, many of my elaborate ideas about weddings changed. Daniel is so incredibly relaxed and easy going. He calms me down. Therefore, we sought to create a very laid back wedding in the woods.
We used lots of color, gold, and kraft paper brown as our wedding theme. My grandma sewed hundreds of napkins in several colors. We painted many many candles and cans gold. We made a dozen or so cake plates using glass and wood plates and golden charger plates. We hand-stamped our own invitations and my sister designed our menus and programs. All of the girls and mothers picked our own flowers and flowers for the tables (mostly greens) from my parent’s garden the day before the wedding. We just loved how personal everything ended up being. We would not have had this day without the army of friends and family that came along side of us to help us.
My dress was designed by The Stone Cold Fox (based in California). The designers were so easy and flexible to work with and they create such beautiful, unique gowns. It was one of my favorite parts of the day. I’ve followed and admired Jill DeVries’ work for many years. I knew for absolute certain that she would be our photographer on that day. She has such an ability to document the unique feel of a day. Her photos focus on the details, patterns, light, and quirks that many would ignore. She was just the best to have with us on our day. HIRE A GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER THAT YOU REALLY FEEL COMFORTABLE AROUND!
