Modern Industrial Wedding With Neon Colors + Paper Planes

Brace yourself. Because this flight attendant’s modern industrial wedding in Philly is setting some pretty sky high goals. At the heart of the cocktail style celebration was a footloose + fancy-free party mood, brought to life perfectly through vibrant neon colors, oversized paper planes and kitschy signage in abstract shapes. Heather and Chris had actually eloped earlier in the year, but that didn’t stop them from partying like it’s 1999 with their loved ones later on! House of Catherine imbued the space with interactive decor elements from the abstract floral photobooth setup to the floor decals leading to the dance floor to the orange telephone nested in blooms where guests could leave voice messages for the Happy Couple in lieu of a paper guest book. Genius!

Always Beautiful Floral was not shy when it came to the floral enhancements either, decorating floating paper planes, the industrial chic bar and even the stairwell with painted blooms + dyed grasses that couldn’t have fit the mood any more perfectly. Heather and Chris had an easy decision when it came to choosing their photographer. The Kruks have the kind of rad, photojournalistic approach that’s taking the wedding world by storm these days. And for good reason! There’s nothing like emotion in imagery to bring you back to the best moments of the day. Join us as we celebrate H+C in the gallery below and leave a comment with your favorite design moment if you will!

From the Bride: We eloped in secret and decided to celebrate with our family and friends a few months later with a bright, floral-filled cocktail party! We chose the location, La Peg, for the bevvies and food, but fell in love an industrial space we could make our own.

House of Catherine tailored their designs to the kaleidoscope of colors I wanted to include; everything from neon dried florals inside of the invitations, to the vibrant and boldly colored 8-foot tall welcome sign to usher in our guests. Fluorescent colors caught the eye of every person in attendance. Scattered throughout the night were touches of us, Heather and Chris; from custom neon drink stirrers, to the monogram place on our gifted cornhole boards. We encouraged our guests to leave us a message on our recorded telephone guestbook. The life sized paper airplanes (9 in total!), paid homage to my career in aviation and floated effortlessly above the dance floor. My face in photos really shows how blown away we were with the execution of each detail.

Always Beautiful Floral was able to bring a wildflower dream to life and elevated the space with bright touches and impactful floral moments. Pops of flowers were tucked into every nook and cranny, both inside and out. We wanted to keep our floral colors vibrant and playful.

Brightly colored, luxe linens and pillows from Nuage complimented the furniture rentals from Something Vintage. The lyrics from Dua Lipa’s song, “Levitating,” played into our signage and transcended from the ceiling to the dance floor — encouraging everyone to boogie all night. We even chose to hide the DJ booth with a hot pink bar. Our DJ kept the dance floor packed all night as he spun beneath a striking fuchsia-colored tree. This was one cocktail party everyone wanted to join — especially if you weren’t invited! This night reminded everyone really what it is all about; friends, family, love and of course a good cocktail!

From the Photographer: Having countless miles flown as a flight attendant, Heather decided to incorporate her love for the sky with human sized paper airplanes hanging throughout the venue! Adding in vibrant florals to the color palette, the day was nothing short of cheerful and spectacular.

Heather and Chris originally eloped in the springtime, saving their eclectic summer celebration to when all the friends and family could gather. (The original elopement was sweet and intimate, all within walking distance of their downtown apartment.) Then they sent out cards to their friends, announcing their elopement, and at the same time, inviting them to the big celebration!

Heather and Chris had said “It was so special to us to have that moment in April to ourselves.” They said the best day in their lives was when they met each other, so to have that elopement alone was just like they wanted. And in regards to the reception, “We just wanted a really, really fun party for everyone, because that’s everyone’s favorite part of a wedding! Bright, colorful and fun is what we were going for!”

Teaming up with House of Catherine for design, Heather wanted an “Alice in Wonderland”, WHIMSICAL floral array, and of course, to incorporate airplanes in a fun, modern way. The plane installations were hung throughout the venue, and everyone was in awe from how creatively everything was designed!

LaPeg, an industrial venue in Old City, Philadelphia, was a perfect place to make Heather’s vision come alive. Heather and Chris really want to prioritize staying true to themselves in all the planning and celebrations as a whole, even if it meant not doing things the “traditional way”. In the end, they were so glad they did, as it turned out even more magical than they imagined.
