An English Castle Wedding
Lisa and Scott’s wedding, captured by Turner Creative Photography, was an absolute fairytale come to life! They were married in an old English castle filled with rich history, and the setting was nothing short of majestic. Adding to the fairytale factor was Lisa’s amazing pale blue dress. She looks like a princess plucked straight out of some whimsical story. I love it!
More from the bride, Lisa of Lisa Dawn Photography:
As Scott and I are wedding photographers ourselves we knew exactly what feel we wanted our wedding day to have. We really wanted the day to be personal and reflect us both. We took on the planning of the day ourselves and many of the details were made my us and our families.
I had quite a clear idea of the style we were going for, which I guess I would describe as relaxed, country, continental & vintage.
I made the flowers including buttonholes, bouquets and floral displays myself with help from my mum and sister the day before our wedding!
With our wedding plans the dress came first, one day on the way to catch a bus home from work I walked passed the window of Oxfam, which have a bridal suite and in the window saw a stunning dress, pale blue with beading on the bodice, I stopped in my track and want to take a closer look, I fell in love with it on the spot and asked if they could put it by for me to try on the next day….I tried it on and it fit perfectly so I think it was meant to be. It turned out to be by Sassi Holford a well known designer in the UK. It was a very lucky find and an x-catwalk dress so had only been worn once before! We hadn’t planned a date but had been engaged for a year so soon our plans fell into place and I needed a venue which would live up to the dress.
Then we found Old Wardour Castle, set in the peaceful Wiltshire countryside beside a lake, Old Wardour Castle, near Tisbury wast was built in the 14th century as a lightly fortified luxury residence for comfortable living and lavish entertainment.
Since the Civil War the badly damaged the castle, it became a fashionable romantic ruin! More recently it was featured in Hollywood blockbuster movie, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. We fell in love with the castle and booked the 13th June this year.
We often shoot weddings at a local 18th Century thatched Inn ‘The Langton Arms’ and have got to know the landlady and wedding co-ordinator and staff well! We trusted them and knew the food was going to be local and delicious-needless to say it was!
My advise to any brides and grooms to be is to make your day your own, invite those you want around you to celebrate your day (we had 50 and still didn’t get to talk to them all!) It’s good to get inspired from other weddings but it can be overwhelming so concentrate on your own ideas and choose suppliers that you trust and you will make your day your own and one to cherish.
Something that made their wedding extra special was the reading Lisa’s best friend did during the ceremony. I thought it was beautiful, so I wanted to include it in its entirety.

Love is a temporary madness,
it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together
that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness,
it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being “in love” which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground,
and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches,
they find that they are one tree and not two.

Lovely…. My favorite shot is of the couple running ’round the corner of the castle with the long grass shot. Highly impactful.
