Bohemian Dallas Wedding

Today’s wedding shot by Sarah Kate Photographer, is the ultimate in bohemian style: a gorgeous boho bride with a beautiful outdoor ceremony under the trees. Newlyweds Alex and Michael planned their wedding in only five months (are you as shocked as we were?), and the bride gave her new husband a disco ball as his wedding gift! We also love the darling parade of flower girls and ring bearers during the processional and the wild florals by Bows and Arrows.

From the bride, Alex: When Michael and I got engaged in January, we initially discussed getting married in October. However, with Michael finishing up school in Boston and an impending move to California in late June, we thought it would be best to move the wedding to early June. Most people thought it would be wedding suicide, but Michael and I were totally willing and excited!

The venue, being the first most obvious step, ended up being the easiest step for us. My parents moved into a house with a breathtaking diamond-in-the-rough backyard. When I saw it two years ago for the first time, I knew immediately that I was going to get married there. Because the venue was outdoors with completely untamed shrubbery and a 300 year old oak tree, I knew immediately that the feel of our wedding would be romantic, whimsical, and natural with a little disco twist. My Mom and I started planning straight away. I always knew that our wedding would be mostly DIY considering how creative and hands-on my Mom and I both tend to be. It was very important to me to have the wedding reflect both mine and Michael’s personality and I think in the end we definitely accomplished that.

It was truly more that we could have imagined; Michael calls it “make-believe.” Everything that we imagined came true in that big backyard. The huge oak tree stood taller than ever with rows of white wooden chairs in front and the shower of flower pedals at the base. The handmade dance floor on the opposite side of the yard glistened with fairy lights and my wedding gift to Michael, a huge mirrored disco ball, hung above it all. My favorite detail would have to be the oversized birdcages filled with ridiculously beautiful flowers and foliage. The idea came from my Mom within the first week of our planning and our amazing florists brought it to life.

It’s a weird feeling having something that you worked so hard on for so long be over in one day. Sometimes I wish I could have been a guest attending and observing our wedding just to take in all the details and ambiance. Then again, being the bride is the best spot. Not only is all of this OUR wedding but I had the best seat in the house. I had the love of my life in front of me and all our friends and family smiling back at us. I am beyond blessed and I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
