New Orleans Inspired Wedding Ideas
One of our all-time favorite decorative accents is Spanish moss. It immediately brings to mind Southern tree-filled expanses, even when the South is nowhere near in sight! Kate Ignatowski and Mimosa Florals brought a little bit of the South to Brooklyn, NY in this New Orleans inspired wedding shoot, with endless modern elements guaranteed to inspire you.
From the photographer, Kate Ignatowski: We shot at 501 Union, a newer venue in Brooklyn, and immediately pictured a bayou, New Orleans vibe with lots of candle-light to go with the modern, refined elements of the space. How could you not have a cognac tasting at that bar! We had the calligrapher create a menu with the couple’s favorite cognacs and included assorted decanters for an intimate feel. We thought a couple that included a cognac tasting would have an appreciation for great food, so we went with rich cakes and assorted chocolates for dessert. To inspire foodie-loving couples, we displayed thoughtful, individually written recipes for each guest as their favor.
Spanish moss was a major element used to tie in the bayou feel. We draped it from the ceiling, drenched the tablescape with it, and incorporated bits in the altar piece. I LOVE the asymmetrical design in the altar with the moss + garden floral elements tied together with orange and gray ribbon. We kept with pops of yellow and orange to compliment the cognac and grays to complement the moss. The invitation suite has a splash of yellow-orange along with hand written gray graphite for a modern touch.
