Waterfront Brooklyn Wedding
A unique color palette, a beautiful New York skyline and photography team Oh! Darling Photography all together in one place? It’s the perfect combination for a beautiful indie wedding! Married in Dumbo, Brooklyn, Jen and Alex made their big day pretty, personal and totally their style.

From the bride. We were looking at a space in Dumbo to hold the reception and ceremony and the person showing us around said that a lot of couples had chosen to get married in the park next door. It was dark out when we went to look at the space; it was right on the water’s edge with stone amphitheater seating built into the hill. I started jumping up and down and told Alex that we had found the place we were going to get married.
We imagined our wedding would be vintage and rustic and as the day got closer we made it simpler and simpler. The color scheme we chose was red and turquoise. We wanted the day to be on the casual side. And we wanted it to reflect our love of books.
We hired our florist to do the bouquets and boutonnieres two weeks before the wedding with the idea that the bridesmaids and my aunt and I would do all of the other flowers. About a week before I started thinking that sounded a little crazy, so I called Kim, told her the budget I had set for the flowers and asked if she would do those as well. I am beyond thankful that she agreed to do them.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Delegate. The friends and family who are offering to help really do want to help. I know that neither Alex nor I could have finished everything we had to do without the generosity of our friends and family. Be sure to do what you want to do, even if other people tell you it’s silly. If it’s how you imagine your wedding, then that’s all the justification you need. And if you are a shy bride (as I was) don’t lose too much sleep about being the center of attention. I worried incessantly about it, and on the day of, I could not believe how much it did not matter – all I could see was Alex.
