Driftwood Wedding Inspiration
If ever there was a master study in juxtaposition, this styled wedding shoot from Jenna Saint Martin Photo and Bramble Floral Design would be the result. It effortlessly blends soft pinks with deep burgundy, wood accents with metallic details, and frilly tulle with marble tabletops. Thank you for sharing, Jenna!
From the photographer, Jenna Saint Martin: This late summer/early fall styled wedding shoot was photographed on the dramatic northern Oregon coast. One of our inspirations was the change in the seasons, and the breezy, crisp and sunny-bright days that you only get to experience at this time of year–perfect days for a bright, romantic wedding with a crisp fall edge. We translated this into blush and peach pastels, accented with brisk metallics, and set off by edgy black details with modern flair. Also included were autumnal colors: deep orange crocosmia, orange-crimson glass baubles, copper-colored Pinot gris rose wine, chocolate cosmos, golden wheat, a burgundy lip shade, a dark leather bouquet wrap, a rich coffee-brown leather duffel bag, camel-colored wingtips, and a gold sequin bridesmaid dress, for example.
We liked the dramatic juxtaposition of hard and soft, summer and fall–a soft, blush gown and hard, brassy platform heels; the rusty metal remains of the shipwreck of the Peter Iredale and the soft sand and waves of the Oregon beach it wrecked on; the soft and light petals of late summer dahlia and blushing bride protea against dark cosmos and spiky, structural greens, all wrapped in tough black leather; soft driftwood dessert stands and hard hard brass candlesticks and chalices; bright reclaimed, weathered wood against severe marble and geometric metal furniture; pale handmade sugar flowers on an ivory cake covered in metallic edible gold leaf with black accents; chunky gold-dipped agates and delicate rhinestone ribbon belts; soft, beach-blown hair with a deep, dark wine lip… the list of dramatic juxtapositions goes on and on!
Another inspiration was the beach itself. Sand dollars, shells, and and beachy baubles dotted the tables. The pale blush, gold and peach tones of the bride’s and bridesmaid’s dresses, as well as the assortment of handmade desserts, echoed the tones of the shells and the beach. Even the saltwater taffy calls back to the coastal setting. The beach we shot on is part of Fort Stevens State Park, which has space available for weddings and events. Metal was also a recurring theme. This can be seen in the gold leaf cake, gold-dipped geode necklace, rusty remains of the shipwreck at the beach, brass table accessories, gold sequin bridesmaid dress, vintage platinum and gold rings, rhinestone belts, gold bridal platform shoes, metal accent furniture and vintage silverware. Just like transitional summer-into-fall days, metal can be warm or cool, and we wanted to include both in our inspiration shoot. This shoot involved a number of amazing Oregon wedding professionals who generously contributed their time and talent.
