Sweet Southern Fete
Wesley and Emma Teague aren’t new to the pages of Ruffled- you might recognize them from this adorable engagement shoot! They’re also amazing photographers themselves as part of W+E Photographie, a Ruffled Blue Label Member. So of course we weren’t surprised to find that their outdoor southern ceremony is as brimming with charm and sweetness as this talented couple. I’m blown away by their crisp, casual portraits and the happy little vignettes photographer James Moes so elegantly captured. And, of course, horses roaming your venue site… nothing screams “southern fete” more than that! Congrats, Wesley and Emma!
From the bride, Emma. The vision for our wedding, in a few words, was simple, soft and sweet. it was a must for us to incorporate vintage elements and themes, but we didn’t want it to be a complete throw back to the past. vintage, yet modern.
We knew without a doubt, that we wanted an outdoor wedding, despite the southern heat. Wesley found our location, which happened to be right in his hometown of Decatur, Alabama. The owners are family friends which allowed everything to fall into place quite easily.
Myself and the bridesmaids made all of our bouquets and boutonnieres by hand after ordering the stems wholesale online. We included in the arrangements garden roses, snapdragons, ranunculus, and anemones.
We found many of the details and decor while perusing vintage and antique stores that we could be found shopping in regardless of if we were planning a wedding or not. We wanted our wedding to feel laid-back and fuss-free, which is also very much of who we are, thus we chose a farm setting with a large barn that we adorned in simple strands of string lights and soft fabrics.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Personally, I’m not the biggest planner, so making 95% of the decisions for our wedding without a professional planner was a very big stretch for me. There were many times during the engagement/planning period where I wanted to give up and just elope, but I found that focusing on our impending marriage more than the actual wedding plans got me through all the decisions in a less stressful way.

The streamers in the trees is such a great idea, so simple but they add so much to the images!
We adore this wedding. So summery and fresh. Especially adore the teacup cake topper! What a sweet idea.
The details are amazing. That cake topper is pure perfection!
I love it! I’m totally envious of outdoor weddings, I wish I’d been willing to risk the rain! The colors and details are gorgeous, congrats you two!
I love when couples use vintage china! Such a nice detail.

“but I found that focusing on our impending marriage more than the actual wedding plans got me through all the decisions in a less stressful way”
i love that she says this. it is SO important to focus on the marriage part of everything vs. the wedding. it really does help you calm down and collect yourself. and you also remember why you’re doing all of this stuff in the first place! it’s good to realize that no matter how the wedding day turns out, you’re going to be married in the end, and that is all that matters.
beautiful photos 🙂 love it
How Simple, soft and sweet. what a great wedding.
I’m Emma’s mom and I made the bouquet! I love to arrange flowers but I’ve never made a wedding bouquet…. I think this one turned out ok. 😉
The wedding was beautiful and we’re thrilled to have Wesley as part of our family. ~
I do believe all of the ideas you have introduced on your post. They’re really convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for newbies. May you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
