Met in Barcelona, first kiss in Paris, engaged in California and wed in Florida. This jet setting couple has an international love story that will make you want to pack your bags and travel the world in a heartbeat. We are loving this tropical chic Florida wedding with bright and airy details and a massive green palm leaf bouquet that is guaranteed to blow your mind! The Hillsboro Club set the prefect luxe beach backdrop for this gorgeous wedding captured by Molliner Photography. So grab a slice of key lime pie and let’s dig in to this tropical affair!
From the photographer, Ingrid from Molliner Photography: Katherine & Nick’s love story began while they were studying abroad in Barcelona. While it sort of began as a fairy tale (set in the most beautiful location), it grew from that experience into something very real and grounded in mutual respect, admiration, and deep love for each other. They were in Barcelona with their college architecture program but didn’t know each other because of the difference in their school years.
During the trip, they did a lot of walking tours and architecture related site seeing. Somehow Nick always ended up walking next to Katherine or drifting towards her. Katherine told us that her first impression was that Nick was that he was a bit of a bully. He was always teasing her. She was the TA for the trip and he loved to tease her about that it. Nick said that the first thing he noticed about Katherine was how fun, playful and adventurous she was. She would eat anything and down to experiencing everything! These two shared their first kiss was under the Eiffel Tower and then he proposed while they were on a camping trip to Big Sur. Nick is quite the romantic! This man does everything big for his girl!
They both are Architects, so they have a great appreciation for intentional details, and simplicity. Which is one of the reasons they chose the Hillsboro Club as the space they would promise forever to each other. The club is nestled right on this gorgeous beach right at the Hillsboro inlet next to a Lighthouse. Its a pretty special spot in South Florida. Katherine is originally from South Florida and she remembers her mom painting the lighthouse a number of times while she was growing up. She told us that as she and Nick were touring the venue, the space reminded her or her mom and home. She was totally sold on the space!
While they were designing their wedding day, they wanted to be true to the natural surroundings of the space. Since the venue was at a beach club that had a seaside vibe, they knew their design should compliment what was already established there. Their reception space was designed with bright whites, light seaside blues, tropical greenery and teak wood throughout. My favorite detail, outside of the bouquets, were the chic white bridesmaid dresses. They paired so well with Katherine’s classic wedding gown. It fit her perfectly and showed off her figure. The back detail and the slight ruffle at the bottom was just a bit flirty and fun which perfectly suited Katherine. Her bracelet and earrings were statement pieces nodding to the tropical touches throughout their day.
The evening reception was complete with classic rock hits, hilarious toasts, delicious key lime pie, and lots of dancing! Such a sweet day celebrating these two!
With all the traveling this couple did, we wanted to travel over to Bali for this gorgeous destination tropical wedding.
