We’ve partnered Michaels Weddings to show you how you can create your own tinted vases with this simple DIY. And as a bonus, we’re showing you how we made this hand-lettered seating chart filled with candles!
DIYers and creative minds alike, we all know that Michaels is the mecca of crafts. I go to buy supplies for my kids’ birthday parties, Halloween costumes, and all decor I want to have my hands on. It’s not a surprise that it’s also the go-to place for all things wedding and the events around it, so the lauch of Michaels Weddings was a much welcomed section to their main brand!
What you’ll need:
Cricut Explore Air 2
I wanted the handlettered vinyl decals to contrast against the glassware and led candles, so I experimented with tinting them using Mod Podge and food coloring. My 4-year-old daughter and I did it together to attest to how easy it is to tint them! We used brushes to mix both colors in the glassware, but you can also try the pouring method if you prefer a uniform look.
I love the warm glow that pink and orange light give against the candles! Did you know that pink lighting is said to have a calming effect?! So fitting if your guests are looking for their names 😉 You can keep it summery by styling with tropical leaves or for a winter wedding, add a wintry nod to it by adding evergreens, pinecones and twigs!
We mixed neon pink and orange food coloring with Mod Podge in the vases and waited 24 hours to dry. They dry much darker than your wet mixture, so run a test first to get the tint just right for you.
I created our decals using Cricut Explore Air 2. Their software is so user-friendly, I got everything right the first try. You need to cut your decals on regular vinyl, and layer transfer paper on top of it.
Peel back the vinyl backing, so your decal is only sticking to the transfer paper (the text will look backwards).
Place your decal on the vase and use a scraper or credit card to press the decal on the surface. Slowly peel back the transfer paper.
Michaels Weddings gives bulk discounts on all vases if you buy more than 5, knocking off 20% automatically from your purchase! It was a nice surprise on checkout, but you can also order in bulk online.
The LED candles come with remote control. Life saver when you’re lighting up dozens of candles at a time! The ones I used have a wax finish and texture, so the look and feel of these realistic candles can also fool you even when they aren’t lit.
Most venues are not keen on open flame candles due to being a potential fire hazard. This is especially true when you want candles everywhere on a shelf like we did here for example or on the ground lining the ceremony aisle. There’s also the melted wax that can ruin tables and linens, so investing in LED candles will go a long way in your wedding planning journey.
Michaels Weddings has everything you need to DIY your bridal shower, bachorelette brunch, and even your wedding if you want your hand in it. You can shop by ceremony, reception, wedding favors and also order online to pick up in store.
Their rapidly growing library of DIY projects is full of easy + achievable projects you can whip up on your own, and their expanding selection of readymade decor such as glass cake stands and galvanized containers are just some of our favorites.
