Elegant Seaside Wedding with Spring Pastels
Ask us about the things that make us giddy, and we’ll happily admit they involve pastels and whimsy. Ruth and Andrew’s elegant seaside wedding in La Jolla, California is all that and more with canopies of market lights, violet + copper pops, and wispy chandeliers overgrown with nature. The bride’s affinity for relaxed, bohemian style is evident throughout and met with classic details that work together effortlessly. So we’re pretty sure these images from Aga Jones Photography will start your week off strong.
Australian designer Sarah Janks is the artist behind this tres magnifique gown. So timeless!
But these blush gems from Show Me Your Mumu are equally as mesmerizing. 10/10 with floral crowns!
The florals throughout are an absolute vision, but Siren Floral Co‘s innovative design for the copper ceremony backdrop is the crowning achievement. Structured, yet not at the same time, these wild violet stems climb towards the sky in a way our hands are now doing too #praise.
Okay wow, we’re digging this relaxed lounge vignette from Folklore sat upon the rugged coastline. That’s probably where you would’ve found us for most of the evening.
From the bride, Ruth: Andrew and I both had toured a few local venues and hotels, but nothing quite felt right. We knew we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful San Diego weather and we both are beach people so really wanted it to be close to the water. When we toured Scripps we didn’t even have to say it out loud, we just looked at each other and grinned: we knew. The location, the beautiful wood architecture, the lawn overlooking the ocean, it was all just what we hoped for.
I never felt like I cared that much about the dress. I figured a white dress is a white dress. I bought the second dress I tried on… about a year and 3 months before the wedding. Well, as planning continued I kept seeing different dresses that I fell in love with. I changed my mind on what style/look of dress I wanted about 15 times. Karen Thomas who does alterations at The Dress Theory was wonderful. She told me that we could achieve so many different looks by adding accessories or altering my dress to my liking. I ended up having her sew “Off the shoulder” sleeves on my dress and added a dramatic veil with cascading petals. It was perfect, she really took all my crazy ideas and gave me what I wanted.
Copper frame table numbers with thick brushtroke calligraphy from Design by Laney. Swoon!
I was so relaxed on my wedding day- my wedding planners, Molly and Rachel at Tres Chic Affairs, were so competent and on top of everything that I actually spent a couple hours on the morning of my wedding at my happy place: Whole Foods. I went to pick up food for all my bridesmaids and they begged me to let them do it for me but I said “No thank you, I want to go, by myself, and just wander around and pick out goodies.” and that’s exactly what I did. (I made sure to grab some refreshments for the boys, too!)
Almost on cue, Pour Some Sugar on Me came raging into our heads when we saw this decadent dessert display from VG Donut & Bakery.
We have been married for just over a year now, and we look back on our wedding day as one of the best of our lives. We frequently look through our wedding album and guest book. We decided that every year on our anniversary we will read each other the vows we wrote as a reminder of why we love one another and to keep holding ourselves accountable for the promises we made.
From the planner, Tres Chic Affairs: Our goal was to combine Ruth’s boho yogi lifestyle with a classic and effortless look that felt peaceful and organic. Some of our favorite elements were here simple yet statement piece of a ceremony structure that didn’t take away from the beautiful view of the sea. We also loved piecing together the different rentals that really helped to set the vibe.
