Modern Wedding at the Fig House in LA

The Fig House in LA is the ultimate venue for modern weddings with a bit of vintage flair, just like Trisha and Jason’s wedding. A truly talented team of vendors came together to make this day one to remember, including Heidi Ryder Photography, Honeyfitz Events, and Little Hill Floral Designs. The couple took inspiration from their venue to incorporate Mid-Century-meets-Art-Deco design with strong geometric patterns, and we couldn’t be crazier about the result.

From the bride, Trisha: We fell in love with the bold colors, fantastic stained glass, mid-century modern meets Art Deco decor, and strong geometric patterns of our venue so we decided to lean in to that. We wanted to incorporate bold geometric shapes and the Art Deco/mid-century vibe into everything from decor to our attire. We also wanted a more “glamorous” fun night, as opposed to something softer and romantic, so we used really rich colors.

Bouquet recipe: I LOVE flowers so I worked closely with my incredible florist on what flowers would be included in my bouquet. It included peonies, dahlias, ranunculus, garden roses all in deep purples and burgundies, and some jasmine to give it a little whimsy.

We used bold colors (rich purples, blues, pink, and gold); gold and rose gold sequins; geometric shapes were incorporated into everything from our invitations to our table arrangements, to the menus, to the hanging floral arrangements. The biggest DIY project I worked on was all the gold picture frames we used for signage and love quotes that I scoured the internet (and Etsy!) for. Because I knew I wanted them all gold, my mom and I went to a bunch of thrift stores and purchased inexpensive frames and then I just spray painted them. Also, our church did not allow flower petals or confetti, so I made sparkle ribbon wands for our flower girls that came out wonderfully!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I’ve got 3 pieces of advice: 1) Hire the best vendors within your budget and then trust them to do their jobs. It’s exhausting trying to do everything yourself. You (and your wonderful fiance) will enjoy the process much more if you don’t have to be involved with every micro-decision along the way. 2) Understand that a lot of people (your family, his family, your close friends, etc.) will have feelings and opinions about your wedding. Rather than get frustrated by that, figure out what’s really important to you and then be willing to let go on some of the things that aren’t. You don’t want anyone to feel hurt or slighted on your wedding day over something that wasn’t super important to you anyway. 3) Set aside nights and weekends with your husband-to-be where you don’t do any wedding planning. Be sure to keep the romance between the two of you so your wedding day is all the more special and magical!
