A Microwedding In The Berkshires With A Natural Birch Chuppah

Deanne&emily Intimatewedding

Late summer proved a perfect season for Emily and Deanne’s microwedding in the Berkshires with a fittingly earthy palette. Natural wooden details filled the scenes from the bark tree stumps lining the aisle to the birch chuppah to the rock formation where they shared their first dance… a spot that harked back to one of our favorite 90’s films! DeAnne herself was at the helm of planning, and spoiler alert, she would eventually launch an event planning company herself after producing this backyard fete.

From the Couple: After many changes to their original plans of a large, 200+ person wedding, Emily and DeAnne decided to wed on family property in the country; a setting that felt like it was intended for such an occasion, with an intimate group of immediate family and close friends.

The weather was a perfect mix of clear skies, sunny and warm temperatures for the late afternoon ceremony and a crisp, cool temperament as the evening drew in for dinner.

The palette reflected the nearing transition of seasons: soft neutrals, muted warm hues with sparks of bold terracotta. The chuppah, a labor of love built by DeAnne and her future father-in-law, was adorned with lush fresh and dried florals.

The sweetheart table mirrored the chuppah with florals cascading off the sides of the table, meeting candles placed in gold trimmed lanterns on the ground. The bridal bouquets reflected similar tones and elements of texture tied with beautiful silk ribbon.

Guests were welcomed with a bourbon-based, apple cider cocktail garnished with rosemary, star anise and a thin apple slice after a scenic stroll down to the ceremony site. They approached their natural wood garden chairs labelled with their gift bags and separated from those outside of their pods by over 7 feet.

Frosted acrylic signage with black lettering guided guests throughout the property and dugout wooden oasis with a handmade tiki bar set the stage for the perfect cocktail hour. Individual hors d’oeuvre boxes rather than passed appetizers offered another pandemic friendly touch.

The couple had their first dance on a natural stage that could only be matched by the Lion King’s pride rock and the song was performed by their sisters/ maids of honor. Despite leading the way in planning, the couple was still met with numerous surprises throughout the day from their pup, Dexter peeing on a stump just before reaching the end of the aisle, a singing flash mob coordinated by Emily’s dad and a stellar reenactment of the infamous wedding speech from the movie, Bridesmaids.
