Romantic Southern Wedding in South Carolina
Today we’ve got a treat in the form of a true southern wedding. Newlyweds Samantha and Brent exchanged vows in the bride’s hometown, in the exact same church where her own parents married years ago. Courtney Dox Photography and The Southern Way worked to make the couple’s day a reality, complete with a reception full of elegant farm tables!
From the bride, Samantha: I always knew that I wanted to get married in my hometown of Florence, SC, in the same beautiful red-roof church that my parents were married in, and have a reception at home. My husband and I both agreed that we liked the idea of a Spring wedding with an elegant yet whimsical vibe. We pictured a large open tent with rows of farm tables, lounge areas for guests, and the incorporation of personal items and favorites of ours. This vision came to life with the help of family members, particularly my mom, who enlisted the help of a local craftsman to hand make us farm tables for the guests to dine at, benches from old bed headboards, a coffee table using a tobacco basket from my late maternal grandfather’s farming days, and a cake table from a stained-glass window that came out of our church many years ago.
I loved the idea of having all sorts of wildflowers as escort cards so we collected mini vases from local shops. Guests were also greeted at a cocktail hour with live steel drum players, a favorite of my husband and mine, and later listen to tunes from the oldies band. My father even surprised us with an airplane flyover dropping flower petals over the reception! Dinner was served family style and following, guests could munch on party favors of boiled peanuts or visit the carnival-style food truck which had an assortment of cotton candy and candy apples. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for better vendors who made our special day possible!
