Outdoor Bohemian Colorado Wedding

Australian florals, horseshoe escort cards and a family-style feast enhanced with bowls of citrus? We simply can’t get enough of Brooke and Sam’s Colorado wedding captured by Harper Point Photography. Calluna Events once again designed a gorgeous Colorado wedding with floral design by Lalé Floral Design, who added Aussie blooms like Kangaroo Paws, Geraldton Wax and Gum Nuts since the bride is from Australia herself.

From the groom, Sam: Our pie in the sky idea was for everyone to just go up to the mountains and camp out together for a few days, but my (Sam’s) family was too big for that, so we tried to keep it simple and so people could just hang out and enjoy the scenery and party. There were no real themes. We did try to incorporate things from Western Australia, where Brooke’s from, like good wine, some of the food, and native flowers. Both WA and Colorado are semi-arid places with beautiful scrubby grasses and wildflowers, so it worked well.

No themes or color schemes. We and our friends made all the signs and the music, and the day before the wedding Sam put together the chandelier that hung from the trees in the middle of the dining area.

Flower recipe:
There were Kangaroo Paws and Geraldton Wax flowers, both Australian natives, as were the few different types of Eucalyptus leaves and the gum nuts. There were peonies, proteas, dahlias, thistles, roses, ranunculus, raspberries… all sorts of others that I can’t name.

Wedding Music:
All the music was provided by our friends. The processional music was this beautiful bittersweet Malagasy guitar music played by our friend Andrew. They struck up the traditional Yiddish tune “Siman tov u’mazel tov” when the ceremony was over. After dinner the full band (Mamarazzi, from NYC) played a set to kick off the dancing. For the first dance they were joined by our friends Patrick and Colleen Lee to play “Shama Lama Ding Dong” by the fictional band Otis Day and the Knights, followed by the parents’ dance, “Caravan” by Van Morrison. (Brooke’s dad is a huge Van fan so we knew it would have him in tears). And then Patrick Lee took over as DJ for the rest of the party.
