Modern Country Meets Secret Garden Wedding

We are living for this enchanted garden wedding, where real couple Ashleigh and Steven said their “I do’s” in a pastoral wonderland. Jove Meyer Events did not disappoint with a circular ceremony layout featuring a hand tufted Moroccan rug and abundantly floral chuppah beneath which Ashleigh and Steven shared smiles, tears and maybe a kiss or two. Twisting vines and suspended greenery led guests into a reception space where lush blooms from Saipua were illuminated by soft candlelight to create an utterly beautiful chaos. The love that was shared that day is almost tangible, thanks to Amber Gress, the master behind the lens. Read on to see every magical moment, and be sure to spot the fleece guests atop the cake!

From the bride, Ashleigh: We wanted to pull through a theme that was sophisticated and elegant but had an edge of novelty and whimsy with wild, Secret Garden-esque florals and elements of magical realism – executed through the lens of modern country elegance. The sheepicorn logo became a pervasive theme, inspired by the sheep at Blue Hill and the fact that we consider one another our own figurative sheepicorns–mythical creatures we did not think existed in reality. Side note: We are still quietly disappointed that we were not allowed to attach any horns to the actual sheep.

We wanted our wedding to feel suspended between classic and contemporary – ambiguously timeless. Our color palette was inspired by a piece of interior design swipe – a picture of dark, unsaturated lapis wallpaper with a geometric copper print and a kelly green fern nearby. The ferns filled out our florals and joined the sheepicorn as a design element in the paper goods. Our colors, decor and flowers all aimed to feel like they fell out of an unplaceable era – nodding to the end of the Victorian and the rise of Art Deco. This is just a long-winded way of saying we wanted it to feel vintage but not too vintage.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Pick three things you care most about for your wedding (ours were the invitations, music and photography). Prioritize all three of those elements within the budget. Also, maybe elope.
