Belgenny Farm Wedding

Whenever I see a wedding with a pastel color palette, it seems to immediately calm me down. There’s something about muted shades of pink, purple, and yellow that just instantly relaxes you, don’t you agree? With Red Poppies taking care of the floral arrangements and Willow & Co. behind the camera, it’s little wonder how Laura and Zachary’s wedding turned out as beautiful as it did.

From the bride, Laura: We wanted our wedding to have a relaxed feel and be more like a big family dinner rather than an event! We chose our reception location because it was in a big granary which gave us the country, rustic style that we love. We wanted to keep a few traditional elements as well as some modern ones like our semi-naked cake made by our good friend Holly. We kept the colours to soft pastels and lots of white with soft light to keep it romantic. And I just wanted as many fairy lights as possible!

Bouquet recipe: White, ivory and antique roses, lisianthus, freesias, wax flowers, hyacinths, David Austin roses and sandy ivory “sahara” roses. We also went to the flower markets the morning before the wedding to pick up blushing brides and extra roses in antique.

Our colour scheme included lots of white and soft pastel colours in the floral arrangements including white and ivory, champagne, antique and caramel. Luckily we have some very creative family members. My mum hand wrote the table seating arrangements and all of the menus on little paper bags that we popped a baguette in from Luxe Bakery. She also decorated the flower jars that we collected from various second hand and op-shops. Zachary’s mum hand made the twine lanterns by wrapping white twine soaked in glue around a balloon and then popping the balloon once the glue dried. She also made the hanging jars with the fairy lights inside. Zachary’s sister made the candle bonbonniere from glasses she collected from second-hand and op-shops. My dad handmade the table numbers and our good friend Holly made the semi-naked cake which was caramel mud with chocolate ganache and honeycomb layers. We also ordered boxes of Saxby’s soft drinks in every flavour to toast with instead of champagne since I was becoming the newest member of the Saxby family.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1. Enlist as much help from family and friends as possible but make sure you give as much direction and clarity of ideas as possibly to ensure you get what you want. 2. Get creative because it saves you money, is fun if you are well organised and don’t leave it to the last minute and the personal touches will be very well received. 3. Remember that it is yours and your partners wedding and make choices that best reflect you and how you want the day to be.
