Fall Wedding in a Massachusetts Art Gallery
Let’s talk about weddings in museums, guys. Between the open space and built-in artwork, has there ever been a more perfect venue? Ariel and Drew exchanged vows in the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, not too far from where the couple met and fell in love years before. Thank you Lara Kimmerer and The Barn Florals for your gorgeous work on this fall wedding!
From the photographer, Lara Kimmerer: Ariel & Drew met and fell in love while attending Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Williamstown and the adjacent town of North Adams sit at the base of Mt. Greylock in the Berkshires. They chose to have their wedding at Mass MoCA in North Adams to celebrate the beginnings of their relationship and all that was to come. To begin the day, Ariel got ready at Field Farm Guest House – a part of the Trustees of the Reservations. Drew got ready at Porches in North Adams. They decided on a first look on the gorgeous property at Field Farm, but as will happen, it began to rain. The first look happened inside the guest house. Sometimes the unplanned parts of a wedding day can end up being the best. The first look inside the house helped to create an intimate few moments for them before the whirlwind of the rest of the afternoon and evening really began.
Mass MoCA is a unique venue in that no two weddings ever have to be the same. The exhibits change of course, but each couple gets to choose the areas of the museum they’d like to use for their event. Ariel & Drew really tried to use every available space open to them. Guests arrived to a champagne reception in one gallery, and were escorted to another gallery for the ceremony. Following the ceremony guests moved to a three story brick-lined stairwell for toasts and cocktails, one of them a signature drink named Tallulah after their dog, who unfortunately could not attend the reception. Ariel & Drew, along with their parents and friends who were toasting them, stood on a balcony overlooking the stairwell and floor below where their guests looked on. Everyone then moved on to the reception in the Tall Gallery where there was a beautiful exhibition by artist Jason Middlebrook. The party was located in two spaces. Dancing was inside with the band Darlingside, whose members also attended Williams College. Outside guests enjoyed sitting by fire heaters while smoking cigars. The couple left to a sparkler send-off in the Mass MoCA courtyard.

Ariel & Drew’s wedding looks wonderful up here! Thank you for sharing their celebration.
Some challenging lighting and small spaces to deal with here – nice rustic earthy tones, lovely smiling happy couple, wonderfully decorated wedding cake and a cute dog too!
Thanks for the continued inspiration, not only for my own work, but also for helping out my couples. Lara nailed capturing this event and it looks like such a special day. Cheers
