Ceiba del Mar, Riviera Maya
This past Labor Day weekend (for us here in the U.S, it’s on the first Monday of September), Matt and I flew to Riviera Maya, Mexico for a much needed break. We were invited by the friendly folks at Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort to stay at their small boutique resort for a few nights. Neither of us had ever been to Mexico before so we were so looking forward to it! The resort is a hidden gem amongst large chain resorts in Puerto Morelos, and we couldn’t possibly have had a better time.
The resort has a dive shop on site, which makes it super easy to go snorkeling. Be sure to bring a waterproof camera – we spotted sting rays, barracudas and even a shark! Riviera Maya, differently from Caribbean Islands, offers a wide range of fun things to do. One of them being a day trip to Chichen Itza, an archaelogical site with ruins from the Mayan civilization. If you’re staying for a few days, check out Tulum – a gorgeous beach about an hour away. Also check out the Cenotes – cave pools. Snorkeling in the crystal clear pools is amazing. If you’re having a destination wedding at Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort, how fun would it be to take an underwater sesh the day after?
The food at Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort is by far the best I’ve had at any hotel – a big deal plus when the closest restaurants require renting a car and driving for half hour. This quaint hotel is surrounded by nature and the nearest hotel next to them is a few miles away, so it’s private and tranquil. Speaking of which, there were nearly no kids at that time of our stay – which I’m sure all honeymooners and destination wedding couples can appreciate 🙂

I would love to go to Mexico, it looks fabulous! And so so sunny!
The underwater picture is breath taking. How small we look in comparison to the huge ocean.
Looks absolutely heavenly – thanks for sharing your photos! Looks like a beautiful place for a Mexico destination wedding!
This place is amazing… but sadly they have now converted it to a “clothing-optional” resort and it’s now a weird vibe, so I would not plan a wedding there unless you’re into that sort of thing! From what I’ve heard it’s become a swingers resort now!!! So sad since I had a friend get married there and it was GORGEOUS!!!!
