Blush Pink Maine Wedding
Every time I look through this wedding, I get a little bit misty-eyed. Katy and Lauren wanted their day to be intimate, personal, and full of love, and I think it’s safe to say they achieved this and much, much more. Emily Delamater Photography came along to capture the marriage of these two lovely ladies and all their handmade details, including flower arrangements and bunting flags!
From the brides, Katy and Lauren: We wanted the community feeling of a traditional barn raising, an experience that brought our community together with the intention of building the foundation of our life together. Katy grew up on a small farm in rural Maine, so a lot of our wedding themes were centered around this feeling – hand picked flowers, homemade jam and decorations, friends and family gathering to sing, dance and eat delicious foods together. When we got married, same sex marriage was not yet legal in the state of Maine. It was important for us to craft a wedding that was deeply personal, and that was very intentional about bringing friends and family together to witness and celebrate our love for one another.
We would describe our wedding as romantic, magical, heartfelt, deeply personal, authentic and breath taking. Our colors were influenced by Katy’s light blush dress. Based on this unique color, we knew we had to tie in complementary colors for Lauren’s suit and the bridal party. We went with blush, light grey and dark grey accents. A lot of the decorations were blush, gray and baby blue. DIY projects were all made by Katy, Lauren, friends & family, and included bunting flags, table runners, votives, homemade jams picked and canned, streamers, collected antique bread plates plates, table bouquets.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Pay attention to what inspires you. Seek out people, blogs, websites and images that speak to you and inspire you, and let your style blossom from there. Not everyone is going to be happy – take the pressure off and give yourself permission to make it memorable for you and your partner.
