Coastal Maine Wedding with Sea Meets City Vibes
Sea meets city in this coastal Maine wedding that highlighted Libby + Sean’s personal journey in all the right ways! You know we’ve got a soft spot for thoughtful details. So once we heard more about their Boston + Brooklyn roots, we started seeing this story reflected in subtle ways throughout every image in Ruffled vendor Jamie Mercurio‘s gallery. And we were hooked! The couple mixed textures you’d find in a NYC cocktail bar (glass, velvet, rich metals) with those more natural elements you might find along the Cape (mussels, terra cotta, rattan), and Jamie Moody & Cider House Designs complemented with florals in the dreamiest summer hues. There’s just no getting over this New England celebration planned by Churchill Events, so check it out in full with us below!
From the couple, Libby + Sean:
Sean and I met in Boston in 2013 while working at the same market research company. Shortly after we started dating, Sean moved back to NYC where he is originally from to be closer to family, but shortly thereafter, I also moved to the Big Apple to pursue my dreams in advertising. It’s hard to say at that time if he was happy I trailed his move or not (haha!) After a slow start, we eventually moved to Brooklyn together, spending our time eating at every amazing restaurant in our neighborhood, watching Liverpool games at our favorite pub, arguing about the Patriots (being the best, obviously) and traveling the world. During the summers, we’d spend lots of time in Maine with my family, and while standing on Higgins Beach in Cape Elizabeth at a friend’s wedding in 2016, I looked across the river and said, “one day, we should get married right there”, pointing to the field at Wentworth Lodge. And three years later, that’ s exactly what we did.
We were thrilled to get married where we did because it was a blank canvas that allowed me to express my full range of creativity AND get the multimillion dollar view of our dreams. Since we’d lived in New York City for 6 years, we wanted to infuse some of our Brooklyn style and attitude into our love for Coastal Maine. We called our aesthetic “City cocktail bar meets boho seaside”. Sounds pretty out there, but it felt so right! I envisioned rich textures like velvet and glass liquor bottles mixing in with natural elements like mussel shells and terra cotta potted herbs. And, I wanted our colors to tell a story, so we had a range from cerulean blues all the way to pinks and oranges.
In terms of vendors, Maine offers some of the best in small, especially women-run business, so we were extremely fortunate to be able to work with so many of these amazing people. Our biggest priority in planning this wedding was staying true to ourselves while also sweeping our guests off their feet so that they’d come back to Maine with us again and again. I think it’s safe to say that the unseasonably warm day, epic sunset, perfect playlist, delicious food and incredible partners made that wish come true!
