Elegant Garden Wedding with Vintage Rentals

When your mother owns a successful vintage rental company, Revive Vintage Rentals, it’s all but a guarantee that your wedding is going to be extra special. Carly and Jacob’s wedding was filled to the brim with beautiful details, bright floral decor, eye-catching calligraphy, and of course, the most perfect vintage rentals. No one could do this wedding better justice than Jessica Scott Photography and Fresh Urban Flowers!

From the bride, Carly: Our first decision was to have the wedding at my family’s ranch near Stonewall, Texas. The ranch belonged to my grandfather and his brothers and now it has been passed down through the family. It was such a blessing to get married on land that meant so much to me and my family. My mom and I did all designing and planning, and throughout the process we wanted an Elegant Organic Garden Party feel – full of pretty details, but still an intimate family affair.

Flower recipe: Some of the flowers that we used: poppies, garden roses, anemone, parrot tulip, ranunculus, rose, peony, dahlia. We wanted to do something a little different for the bridesmaids, so instead of traditional bouquets, we decided to tie floral arrangements onto antique books. We spent months tracking down antique copies of my bridesmaids’ favorite books and Sarah, with Fresh Urban Flowers, made perfect arrangements to complement the books.

My mom is a talented designer, and together we dreamed of what we called a modern, organic garden party. We used poppy red and jadeite green as a color scheme with gilded gold accents. We spent about a year searching Texas antique stores for vintage jadeite pieces and vintage mirrored trays (the kind that women once used on their dressing tables), which we used as centerpieces on some of the tables. On the reception tent walls, my parents installed stained pallet walls where we hung canvas and vintage European style mirrors and frames. Whitney Farnsworth, our calligrapher, did beautiful work writing some of our favorite verses and quotes on the mirrors. We also installed living walls with ferns surrounding the reception tent – we loved the idea of incorporating lush green ferns into the wedding decor.

My mom and I also spent all year collecting vintage books in the jadeite green and gold colors that were used on the tables. We added the poppy color with hand-dyed crochet table runners to our vintage farm tables. Due to the high chance of rain, we had to use a tent for the main reception area. We still wanted to extend the space to incorporate the land, so we placed our dance floor outside of the tent and added vintage seating areas outside from Revive Vintage Rentals. Additionally, we built three 20 foot tall rebar trees that gave the outdoors area lighting and a unique architectural element. The week of the wedding, floods and tornados almost took out the reception tent and many of the details we built, including the living fern walls. While all of these projects took a lot of time, it was so fun to be able to work together with my family and Jacob to hand-create details for the wedding.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? From the beginning of wedding planning, decide what details and elements of your wedding are important to you and what is lower on the priority list – it makes it much less stressful for you and the people helping you. I knew that photography, paper products (our beautiful invitation suite was designed and painted by Whitney Farnsworth), and the decor details were a priority to me. This is also true for between the bride and groom – talk about what elements are important to each of you and make it a priority to incorporate personalities into your day. And lastly, enjoy the planning process. Although it can be stressful and overwhelming, it is a special time for you and your family to create something beautiful.

Wedding Music:
Our ceremony was held on a hilltop at my family ranch with a fantastic view. We wanted the songs to cause people to look out and enjoy and marvel at God’s creation. Jacob plays cello at his church, so we asked the rest of the guy he plays with to come play for the ceremony. The instruments included a guitar, french horn, and a mandolin, which was unconventional but perfect.
