Intimate Wedding at The Foundry in Brooklyn

When we see a team of vendors including Jen Huang Photography, Saipua, and Stone Fox Bride, we know we’re in for something good. Of course, Aynsley and Nate’s wedding didn’t let us down. From the sophisticated but relaxed style to the beyond amazing floral design, every bit of this wedding day is sure to inspire!

From the bride, Aynsley: Our wedding took place on the first day of summer, so we really wanted the feel to be fun and casual but still intimate, warm and romantic. There were a few details that I had wanted from the beginning that helped shape our bohemian, playful vibe: a floral archway, string lights and communal dining tables. With its brick and ivy-covered walls, industrial yet rustic architecture and gorgeous views, The Foundry was the perfect space for us. We were also able to customize the event based on the venue’s individual spaces, so we decided to hold the ceremony in the main room, cocktail hour in an adjacent room, dinner in the courtyard and the reception back in the main room. Compared to holding it in one big space the entire night, our set-up gave the evening a fun, natural flow.

We live in New York City now, but I’m from the Bay Area, Nate is from Boston and we met at school in Chicago, so we had family and friends travel from all over. It was really special to see everyone close to us together in one place. Family is extremely important to us, and we wanted to pay homage to our parents and grandparents in a few special ways: We printed and framed wedding photos of our parents and grandparents to decorate the entryway table. We also used the same cake topper as my parents and grandparents before them. And, in lieu of a reading during the ceremony, we asked our parents – who are each celebrating 30 years of marriage this year – to write and present their well wishes for a long and healthy marriage. (As a cute play off Nate’s and my love of food, they presented us with a “tasting menu” of tips and wishes!)

One of the most memorable parts of the night was during the cocktail hour after the ceremony, when our photographer, Jen, took Nate and I up to the venue’s terrace that had a spectacular view of the NYC skyline. Afterwards, The Foundry team asked if we wanted to take some photos on their other rooftop, which apparently had an even better view but treacherous slotted stairs and a loose-pebbled ground (neither good for my spiked heels). However, once we made it up, the completely unobstructed view of the sun setting over the skyline, East River and Queensborough Bridge was a real highlight and moment we’ll never forget.
