Tea Party Warehouse Wedding
Today’s wedding is so full of whimsy and design, you’re sure to find something to inspire your next event. The bride made all of the fabric and button flowers and they could not be any more stunning! Every element helps to support their tea party theme and infuse the day with fantasy. And, of course, the whole day is captured beautifully by the ever amazing, Our Labor of Love.
From the bride. We had gone to a few wedding expos and found absolutely nothing that appealed to us at any of them. My husband and I were sitting on a balcony at the Fox Theater in Atlanta overlooking an expo and I mused that whenever I thought about our wedding, I envisioned a tea party. It kind of ran from there. After falling in love with some dresses, we decided to narrow it down to a 1930s tea party and encouraged all of the guests to dress period.
Our color scheme was plum, light tiffany/robin’s egg blue, cream, and antique gold. I’m a graphic designer by trade and had everything pantone matched, from my shoes to my hair.
The flowers were made of felt and were cut, embroidered and built by hand. I sculpted the cake topper out of sculpy to fit into a teacup we got from crate and barrel that happened to be the proper color. The buttons on the flowers, the tea sets for the centerpieces and the linens were all antiques donated from both families. We also had a wall of old wedding pictures from both families.
The biggest DIY had to be the stationery. I designed the save the dates, invitations, programs, thank you cards, and guest book pages by hand. We rented a letter press to print everything completely by hand. I loved the process so much that I started a business doing handmade wedding stationery.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Two things: 1. Do not skimp on photography. The number one thing I heard from everyone I talked to is how disappointed they were with their wedding photos. I was determined to not let that happen to me.
2. Make use of family heirlooms as decoration! We got so many compliments on how touching/sweet it was to include all of the old linens, tea sets, and such. That was just a bonus on top of saving tons of money.
