Intimate Irish Wedding

Oh my goodness, do I ever envy the ingenuity of today’s bride. Not only did she gold-leaf her own wedding shoes once she couldn’t find the perfect pair in shops, but she actually assembled her own wedding gown from a mix of pieces from ASOS, Etsy, and Michaels. There are plenty of visual treats to behold in this one from the lovely Katie Purnell, so let’s get started:

From the bride, Kristin: The style we hoped to achieve for our wedding was whimsical, magical, and warm. We were asking our guests to join us on another continent in the middle of the winter, so we wanted to be sure that the wedding felt like a big family gathering, complete with roaring fires and cozy warm socks. We hoped to make sure that the guests enjoyed the holiday atmosphere that Dingle, Ireland already offered, simply highlighted by our own details and touches. We focused on winter colors and textures to really bring this vision to life.

Bouquet recipe: Ranunculus, grey berzillia berries, gold painted leaves, twigs, pine needs, pine cones, greenery.

Our theme was the untamed Irish Countryside, and our colors were drawn from that inspiration. Our colors were navy, champagne, olive green, gold and ivory. We also incorporated other earth-tones, which really added to the warmth of the event. We did a ton of DIY putting this event together. Each gift bag, program, and piece of stationary was hand-stamped. I designed the programs and an itinerary for each guest. Joe and I hand wrote welcome letters to every individual guest. I also assembled my dress from various vendors from the internet–a handmade tulle skirt paired with a dress from ASOS and satin ribbon from Michael’s. I couldn’t find the perfect gold shoes so these are gold-leafed J. Crew flats. We worked closely with our planner Annie, who hand painted wine bottles and leaves to bring the gold elements to our reception. Finally, a great Etsy vendor hand-spun our woolie sheep ornaments for each guest, my favorite touch of the whole wedding!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Find a wing-man (or two!) who knows your wedding vision and who is relentless in making sure you stick to it. This is incredibly helpful as Pinterest and wedding blogs start to pull you in one million different directions. Make sure that you involve your groom, many of our best ideas were thanks to his brilliant taste. Also, one of the biggest saving graces for me was having one Pinterest board where things were pinned once I was SURE about them. Once something was pinned to this board I couldn’t revisit it and over analyze it ever again. This was incredibly helpful as we got to crunch time.
