Art Deco Texas Wedding

Peacocks, Art Deco, and some serious glam action — need I say more? From the bride, Allison: I knew from the beginning that I wanted the wedding to be a different and glamorous event, and for the guests to have a great time. I am totally in love with the 1930’s and 40’s culture-movies, clothes, hair, the elegance of the Art Deco era. Since this was our very own big day, we wanted to try to recapture the feel of a fete of years past. Since the vintage trend seems very haute right now, I was able to get tons of inspiration from this and other wedding blogs which became my weekend and after work obsession.

We chose Austin, Texas as our location as Matt has some family there, and since all my family would be coming from out-of-state I figured Austin would be a nice place to visit for everyone. At a pool party one day, a friend mentioned that we should check out this place that was part of the Austin Museum of Art called Laguna Gloria. It was built in the early 1900’s and overlooks Lake Austin-a very old world feel. We had our ceremony and reception out on the lawns surrounding the villa.

Colors were inspired by simple elegance of black and white, with pops of peacock inspired colors-teal & copper. My mother and I did the programs as a DIY project. Since it was a Jewish wedding, and Matt’s side of the family is not Jewish, we used it to help describe some of the traditions and steps of the ceremony that were occuring. I also found a poem that my Father had written for me for my Bat Mitzvah over 16 years ago and put that on the last page for the program.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Have a clear vision of what type of feeling you want people to walk away with and keep that in mind during planning. Don’t try to do everything yourself — get help where you can. Try to have everything completely done the week before the wedding and delegate out day of activities so that you can relax and enjoy the time with your family and friends, and future husband. Take that time to reflect on this life changing experience that is happening, and revel in the love and good energy everyone is sending to you. The actual event will go by so quickly. Enjoy every minute of it!
