Handmade North Melbourne Wedding

Whenever we hear a bride is a graphic designer, we know her wedding’s going to be something pretty special. Dany and David spent nearly a year crafting, collecting antique pieces, and designing unique paper goods for their North Melbourne wedding at Two Ton Max, photographed by Love Katie + Sarah. Every detail in these garden party nuptials is utter perfection!

From the bride, Dany: Being an illustrator/graphic designer slightly obsessed with vintage styling, I envisioned a vintage wedding with a hint of ‘garden party.’ The colour scheme was based around soft romantic pinks and creams with a splash of yellow.

Pretty much everything about our wedding was DIY! I spent 11 months, from the time we got engaged to the week before the wedding, collecting vintage crockery and cutlery, making flowers for the tables out of crepe paper (petal by petal) and designing all the little elements that appeared throughout the venue.

David also got the DIY bug, constructing an enormous pergola for us to get married on. It was fantastic, and now sits in our back garden for us to enjoy for years to come. Our venue was an industrial warehouse space, so, to ‘green it up’ we also created a ‘garden’ in the ceremony area which included rolling out faux turf and filling the space with potted flowers and trees. It was fabulous!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Don’t try to take on too much on your own (speaking from experience!!). Accept lots of help from others. I wish I had done this more often throughout the planning… it would have made it a lot less stressful! Also, enjoy the ride! The day goes so quickly (as everyone will tell you), so make sure you have lots of fun during the planning phase.
