Yellow Submarine Wedding Inspiration

I love the Beatles — more than love, in fact. So when I saw these images from Jennifer Williams Photography celebrating the film version of Yellow Submarine, I got unbelievably excited! Jennifer teamed up with Therese of My Sorted Affair to put together this incredibly colorful and happy wedding shoot, complete with one amazing cake from Anamie’s Sweets.

From the photographer, Jennifer Williams: Therese of My Sorted Affair came to me with a vision for a Yellow Submarine inspired wedding. It also happened to be perfect timing because the newly remastered version of Yellow Submarine was just released. We wanted to create something vintage but unconventional, to go along with the film’s bright and colorful imagery. We took components of the movie and applied it to the details and styling of the shoot. The escort cards are displayed on green apples (as thrown by the blue meanies in Yellow Sub). The flowers were chosen for their bright pops of color, but also for their interesting textures and shapes. The Beatles message of LOVE pops up throughout.

An ombre heart cake was designed by Anamie’s Sweets in bright vivid colors. After styling the “wedding” we then needed a couple who would fit in this setting. Lucky for us, the models happened to be musicians and a real couple! A wedding gowns just didn’t seem to fit. I ended up stumbling upon the bride’s dress at Forever 21, and I thought it was perfect for our edgy musician bride! Curl Up and Dye Salon provided hair and makeup to finish off the model’s perfect mod look, circa 1968. The make-up artist, Alex Arias, wasn’t afraid to be over the top and edgy to show off our big ideas. The shoot took place at The Loft, a venue in an old department store, in the downtown area of our town. Now it’s a wedding venue on the third floor, with a vintage furniture store below. A lot of the original department store features are still in place. We also couldn’t help popping over to a mechanic shop for a few shots.
