From the bride, Brea: We were in Barcelona when Adam proposed and I think that was really the inspiration for the type of feel we wanted to incorporate in our wedding. There is an energy to the city that becomes infectious and it truly is a city that has something to offer to everyone. Whatever it is you’re looking for, whether that is great food, amazing art, beautiful architecture, gorgeous beaches, or vibrant nightlife, you’ll find it in Barcelona. When we started discussing what we wanted our wedding to mean to us and the types of experiences we wanted to incorporate for our friends and family to enjoy, it became very obvious all of these were themes we wanted to carry throughout the weekend.

Once we were engaged, we started to discuss wedding destinations. Adam is from Syracuse, NY with family all over the East Coast and I am from Charlottesville, VA with family all over the Midwest. As we started to look geographically as to what would be easiest, there really wasn’t a location that stood out to either of us. There were a lot of people betting that we would choose a vineyard in Charlottesville as these were the types of weddings I had grown up attending and seeing all over town, but it just didn’t fit us as a couple.

I came across this one couple’s wedding and just like that, everything felt right. I was staring at pictures of my dream wedding. I looked up from my phone and said to my family, “What do you think about Islamorada?. As there were cheers from everyone, I knew I still had to make the phone call to the one person who had undoubtedly been cheering for this option from the very beginning, but had never voiced it. Adam wanted our wedding to be everything I had dreamed of and didn’t want to influence it one way or another. I called Adam and I said “I know where we should get married!” and he said “Oh yeah, where?” and then the mouth spew happened… Then I heard on the end of the phone, “You had me at Islamorada.” So, I took that as a yes for everything else and we planned an event-filled, Florida Keys inspired wedding weekend. Knowing that it was going to be in mid-March with most of our family still experiencing Winter, we had events Thursday – Sunday.

As for the style and colors, the setting of Islamorada is literally breathtaking. Islamorada means Purple Isle because of the gorgeous sunsets and I knew that for the colors, I didn’t want anything that would distract from the natural beauty of where we were getting married. Pierre’s had this amazing Southern Charm to it with blue shutters, teal ceilings, and then very nude and rustic chairs and tables.
