Leaves of Grass Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass was always a source of inspiration for me, so I’m extra excited to bring you all today’s styled shoot from Jason Hales Photography, Bowman & Clark, and Alabaster & Ivory Events. Inspired by the wordsmith’s book of poetry, it brings together classic beauty and organic garden wedding ideas for a shoot that’s making us fall in love with the written word all over again.

From Allie Webber, Co-Owner of Bowman & Clark: We loved getting to design for this unique mixture of soft, garden inspired florals and more structured 19th century details. The arbor structure was covered in greenery and potted and hanging plants created a garden oasis. Wild arrangements, soft fabrics and pillows helped bring in the boho vibe. While the dark 19th century furniture and candlesticks brought depth and warmth into the space. The bride looked effortless in a gorgeous Winifred Bean gown, with her hair pulled back easily, and her makeup creating a natural glowing complexion. We loved the contrasting details and natural feel of this shoot and hope that it inspires a beautiful garden, boho, or 19th Century design.

Organic Winter Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Winter is the perfect season for embracing simplicity and minimalism, as today’s shoot from the fantastic team of Feather & Twine Photography, Jen Rios Weddings, and Oh Deery shows. Using wooden details, greenery, and a clean color palette of whites and greens, this shoot is everything we’ve come to know and love from the year’s chilliest season. The simple greenery arch for the ceremony offset with romantic votive lighting particularly catches my eye!

organic winter wedding inspiration - photo by Feather and Twine Photography https://ruffledblog.com/organic-winter-wedding-inspiration

From the photographers, Feather & Twine Photography: Our concept for this shoot was a lovely organic winter with ethereal and natural elements. With a neutral color palette we focused on layers and texture to convey contrast instead of bold color palettes. The primary player here was all the natural beauty found in winter scenery, flora and fauna. By highlighting a bride and her very best friends as bridesmaids we created an ethereal look in fashion with all white, ivory and champagne garments accented with greenery accessories. The overall vision was a wintry woodland wedding with dreamy and delicate design elements.

Editorial Boudoir Shoot with Bohemian Styling

Fashion & Beauty

Photos by:

Claire Loves Love

We’re so thrilled to bring you the newest endeavor of brilliant photographer Claire Loves Love – boudoir photography. This is boudoir as you’ve never seen it before, filled with lush floral accents, nods to the bohemian aesthetic, and the most strikingly beautiful lingerie you could imagine. Thanks to Sara Murray of confetti & co. for her styling, and Kate Farley‘s brilliant work with the flowers!

Editorial Boudoir Shoot with Bohemian Styling - photo by Claire Loves Love https://ruffledblog.com/editorial-boudoir-shoot-with-bohemian-styling

From the photographer, Claire of Claire Loves Love: The shoot included a beautiful cathedral veil from Hushed Commotion’s 2015 line and clothing and accessories from Free People, BHLDN, Tessa Kim, and Lovely Philadelphia. I had Kate Farley come in to add floral styling, which I requested be an Alphonse Mucha-style free flowing installation. Sara Murray from Confetti & Co. helped style the set vignettes with vintage items from Maggpie Vintage Rentals here in Philadelphia. Two models participated, one in a more daring black ensemble and the other in a very classic bridal white to act as a juxtaposition.

Marianmade Farm Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Emily Delamater

There are many reasons to love this Maine wedding, and perhaps the most compelling is the way it effortlessly blends bohemian, indie, rustic, and glam styles into a chic backyard affair. Emily Delamater, Diane York Events, and Marianmade Farm joined together to make wedding day magic – let’s take a look, shall we?

Marianmade Farm wedding - photo by Emily Delamater https://ruffledblog.com/marianmade-farm-wedding

From the bride, Marie: I wanted our wedding to have an indie feel with a lot of handmade elements. We picked yellow + gray for a color scheme, but I did not want that to limit us design wise. I love mixing textiles + patterns and shy away from themes. I work for a non-profit craft organization so supporting local artisans + vendors was important to me. Our wedding jewelry was purchased from local jewelers, one of which is a member of my organization.

wedding bouquet - photo by Emily Delamater https://ruffledblog.com/marianmade-farm-wedding

Flower recipe: I told the florist I wanted succulents + lambs ear + billy buttons included – I also told her I wanted my flowers to be white. Other than that I let her take the creative lead.

yellow white bouquets - photo by Emily Delamater https://ruffledblog.com/marianmade-farm-wedding

I picked grey + yellows as a base color scheme but did not want to be limited by that. Most of the decorations were either purchased finds or made by myself + family. My husband + his brother-in-law built the arbor, the bells hanging from the arbor were made by my mother-in-law. The tissue flags were created by my sister-in-law (who also married us!). The big moss letters, menu sign, were created my mom, the wooden round signs were created by myself + my husband cut the rounds.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Weddings are a very exciting + stressful time. It’s important to take a step back and remember that this is about the two of you and significant milestone in both of your lives. You will be getting lots of suggestions and opinions from family + friends which can be overwhelming, but just remember they love you and just want to support you. Stay true to yourselves and take what suggestions fit your ideas, and show appreciation for suggestions you don’t take.

Romantic Atlanta Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Paper Antler

What can I possibly say about this wedding to do it justice? Once in a while we run across weddings that make our hearts ache and long for wedding do-overs, and today’s beauty from Paper Antler is just one of those weddings. Jackie and Grant returned to Jackie’s hometown of Atlanta and celebrated with vintage centerpiece bottles, ping pong tables, and perfectly mismatched bridesmaids dresses.

lace wedding dresses

From the photographers, Paper Antler: Jackie and Grant are college sweethearts who decided to celebrate their wedding in Jackie’s hometown of Atlanta. Their ceremony was in a historic church downtown and the reception was at the beautiful Summerour, a renovated warehouse with a Tuscan style courtyard. Their whole day had a soft, vintage feel, from the bride’s lace dress and flower headpiece, to the light pink and grey color palette. However, the fried southern food, ping pong tables at the cocktail hour, and colorful mismatched bottle centerpieces made it quirky and personal to them.

Bohemian Utah Wedding

Garden Weddings

Around here, we’re pretty big fans of photographer Alixann Loosle and her beautiful images — and this wedding sent over from Lindon, Utah is surely no exception. Newlyweds Tregan and Landon make one of the prettiest couples we’ve seen this year, and their reception is a botanical dream with its hanging single flowers, wooden tables, and arches. Keep an eye out at the end for a special equestrian guest!

lds wedding portraits

From the bride, Tregan: I am a dreamer with a huge imagination. For years I have thought up of what my future might hold for me, knowing that by the time I turned 22 I would love to be married. My wish was my command and after 3.5 years of dating this special man, in January of this year I was engaged to be wed to the man of my dreams.

Let’s start off with what the first step of the wedding process is, the ring. I knew from the get go that I wanted something different, something that could be passed down from generation to generation. We started out the traditional way and went around to different ring shops but we both agreed that nothing caught our eye. The next chance we got we headed to Custom Ring Design where they were able to make all of my wild ring dreams come true. Seriously though, they exceeded all of my expectations. On January 22, Landon and I got engaged and that’s when the 6 month count down began.

Years ago my sister and I had been watching an HGTV show about extravagant floral design. This man decorated the whole event with hanging flowers and honestly, from that point on I knew I’d have hanging flowers at my wedding. I hired an incredible florist who totally captured my every thought. She knew exactly what I was talking about when I said ‘hanging’ flowers, she was the perfect fit for me. Thankfully I have such an amazing family so creating these ‘C-stands’ to go over the guest tables was no hassle at all. We are a handy family, even us girls, so not only was the hanging flower idea an original one, it was also a hidden symbol of what I love to do and that is to create.

One last thing that I feel was some what different than the normal wedding was our wedding favor gifts. I once was a nanny for a lady who had such an incredible eye for little detail. She always came up with idea’s that I nor anyone else had ever thought of before. Anyway, she held a book club event at her house and had the cute little pine tree’s as take home gifts. Not only did I love the idea of having them be my wedding favor gifts but I had also never seen it done before so naturally, it just seemed like a great idea. I also joke that we gave little tree’s to replace the tree’s that had gotten burned down by the many forest fires that we had here in utah, it just seemed too appropriate!

As far as other details to my wedding, my sisters who had the 2 matching brides maid dresses got their dresses from an online shop that was based out of China. It was a random website that we found through pinterest. Once we got them, we were pleasantly surprised at how much cuter they were in person. We had my amazing cousin add the lace fabric and do some alterations. My dress… ooohh how I absolutely LOVE my dress. It gets me a little teary eyed just talking about my dress because I only got to wear it once. I love the thing so much that I honestly wish I could wear it on a daily basis, or even have it in a life size shadow box.. something! Avenia Bridal’s, Nancy Barrus made my wedding dress from scratch. Like everything else, I had a vision and she grasped it completely. I cannot express how amazing she is at what she does. My dress was the most beautiful that I had ever seen and it was all because of this fabulous lady.

Overall our wedding day was the most perfect day of our lives. Everything was more than amazing and we couldn’t have done it with out all of the incredible help that we had. I think I might just have found a new favorite wedding venue. The blank canvas of Pale and Interesting – The Venue is absolutely breathtaking in its simplicity — a true blank slate waiting to be painted. Hannah Gooch did a fantastic job of pulling together all-star vendors — including the endlessly-talented photographer Sarah Gawler — to create their dreamy vision. The muted, but crisp color palette combined with vintage elements is a foolproof recipe for a gorgeous wedding. Whatever you do, don’t miss the gallery!

From the designer, Hannah: Pale and Interesting – The Venue, a New England-style barn in the beautiful Kent countryside, was the setting for The Ebury Collection’s first shoot. Only 10 minutes from the beach, this beautiful private home is owned by stylist Atlanta Bartlet and husband Dave Coote. For those of you looking to for a stylish blank canvas as your wedding venue, you really can’t get much better than this.

The lovely Sarah Gawler and I got our heads together back in March and had a great time selecting gowns from Blackburn Bridal Couture for our three bridal looks. The first is a soft, boho style with a fabulous Claire Pettibone gown. I love Bethany’s lose plait and her floral headband. Lindsay from LK Lily created a loose and rustic bouquet featuring roses, sweet pea and trailing jasmine and used the same flowers to create her floral headdress.

Sarah Treble’s unique and elegant gown needs little more than a few peonies in the hair as the feathers are really the feature of this look. Accessorizing with a beautiful tight bunch of white peonies works perfectly. And finally, a simple gold jewelled headband and a little bunch of Lily of the Valley perfectly compliments Clinton Lotter’s breathtaking feather gown, with its gold belt.

We used a simple linen tablecloth with lots of glass candlesticks, votives and tealight holders to create the table setting. A large vase of white and green flowers coordinate perfectly with the pale grey pie-crust plates and the gorgeous ceramic pears and zinc place name tags.

Plan My Wedding Please

Ever since I was in grade school, I was obsessed with my penmanship. I would not turn in my homework until it was perfect; it drove my mom crazy! I practiced writing every chance I had and eventually fell in love with this art form. Little did I know, it would be the reason I would fall in love with the wedding industry.

Plan My Wedding Please exists to make every wedding and event magical. My role as wedding planner and calligraphy artist, as cliche as it sounds, is to make your wildest dreams come true. From the little details in signage and invitations, to the big details in wedding gowns, caterers and florals, every detail is important. Every young girl dreams of her wedding day, and I am here to make those dreams become reality. I look forward to working with you!

Nicole Presley, owner, is available for wedding planning throughout the United States and sends paper goods worldwide.

DIY Vintage Lace Headband

DIY Projects

We’re approaching the end of our DIY project entries and I’m already feeling a bit sentimental. It’s been a lot of fun sharing do-it-yourself ideas from such creative people! Today we’ll be posting a few more submissions and brace yourself, because what we’re posting today is pure goodness.

We’re going to start the day with a project sent by Jessica, who made an adorable headband using an appliqué from a vintage dress. Here she used a matching ribbon to tie the headband, but you could also try sewing an elastic band at the bottom instead. Either way, the idea is just fabulous!

DIY vintage lace headband

What you’ll need:
– 1940’s dress appliqué purchased at a local antique shop. (Cat’s Cradle Antiques)
– one yard of gold ribbon (http://www.joann.com/joann/home/home.jsp?topnavlink=true)
– white thread

DIY vintage applique headband

Instructions:
I positioned the appliqué on the ribbon placing it more on the side of the head. I pinned the ribbon and then sewed it onto the appliqué. Secure both ends by sewing (either by hand or using a sewing machine). I cut the ends of the ribbon so they were even with the way the appliqué would lay on the head.

1930s Wedding Dresses by Johanna Johnson

Fashion & Beauty, Wedding Ideas

Next week we’ll be sharing a lovely vintage wedding where the bride wore this amazing Art Deco inspired wedding dress, and when I heard it was by Johanna Johnson I had to see more. Doing a quick Google search, I found the entire collection. You can zoom in to see every little detail. Every inch of these bias cut gowns screams 1930’s glamour, with tactfully placed crystals and the most dreamy sleeves a wedding dress can have. Not to mention the vintage inspired hair and makeup heaven this collection is – and they’re natural looking, too. What about the vintage inspired cap veils? I was never fond of long veils, but this first one got me.

It was very difficult to pick just a few, but I think these will give you a taste of Art Deco delight…

Glamorous Bridal Headbands

Uncategorized

These headbands are so Hollywood glam and beautiful, it’s hard to take your eyes off of them! Feathers, glitz and beads make them the perfect adornment for the va-va-voom bride, wouldn’t you say? The gold one in particular has won me over with pearls, sequins, crystals and beads all worked into a delicate piece! These beauties are the lovely work of Sheena Holland.
