Blue and Peach Organic Wedding

Romantic Weddings

The combination of soft blue and delicate peach in today’s wedding is one to fall in love with. Caroline Lima Photography and Tre Bella worked to make Danielle and Adam’s big day as memorable as possible, and we have no doubt they achieved their goal. There’s much to love in this wedding, but we’re still reeling over the bride’s emotional first look with her father!

From the photographer, Caroline Lima Photography: When I asked Danielle and Adam to name three things that made them fall in love with each other, they had a bit of trouble responding at first. That’s because they both felt that creating a short list would be difficult. But finally they spoke of being drawn to one another also because they each share a deep devotion to their families. And as I watched their beautiful wedding unfold, as their two families became one, I could clearly see why! Danielle and Adam come from truly loving, kind-hearted stock.

Fuchsia and Emerald Wedding at Villa Woodbine

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Michelle March

The color combination of fuchsia and emerald green makes my heart sing oh-so-much, so you can imagine how excited I was to see this wedding from Michelle March and Sullivan Owen Floral & Event Design. The rich colors play off each other beautifully, and accent the couple’s romantic ceremony and reception more perfectly than we could imagine. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Joann and Nate!

From the bride, Joann: I envisioned a garden wedding with old world influences. The venue was my inspiration. I chose bridesmaid dresses that matched the lush greenery and palms. I saw the giant oak tree in the garden, and wanted to transform it into the backdrop of where we were to get married with Spanish moss and romantic florals.

Emerald green and fuchsia were our main colors. I think my head table really encompasses the look of our wedding. We used vintage lace runners on the rustic farm tables, mercury glass and rose gold candle votives and vases, and assorted Vintage candlesticks with taper candles. We had a Vintage postcard station for guests to sign instead of a guest book, which one of my bridesmaids gradually mailed to me throughout our first year of marriage. Used Grandma’s vintage bell collection – one on each table for guests to “ring the bell to see kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs.”

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try to have fun with your partner in making the plans. My husband is really into music so I let him take account for all things music related and he loved being able to contribute to the planning of our wedding day. I love florals and had so much fun being able to work with my florist to make my vision come true!

Colorful Carondelet House Wedding

Romantic Weddings

By now, it seems like we’ve professed our love for Carondelet House dozens of times. If you aren’t already as smitten as we are, then by the time you see these images from Lukas & Suzy VanDyke you’ll completely understand the hype. Thanks to Orange Blossom Special Events and Peony & Plum for helping bring together the couple’s vision for a cultural celebration of love!

colorful Carondelet House wedding - photo by Lukas and Suzy VanDyke https://ruffledblog.com/colorful-carondelet-house-wedding

From the bride, Jenny: I met Paul when he was three weeks away from moving to China for a year. I didn’t think he would call me since he was leaving so soon, but the next day he set up a unique date for us. He wanted to share some of his experiences with me, as he had traveled all over the world — to India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Israel, Jordan, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, to name a few. Paul found a Sri Lankan festival in Santa Monica and brought me to listen to the music, enjoy the dancing and the spicy food. We grew so close over those three weeks before he left for China and continued to fall in love while he was across the world.

A year later, Paul came home and we moved in together. We rescued the best dog ever, our fur baby, Ellie! One day I came home to find a note on the door. Paul had set up a scavenger hunt and used pictures from our relationship as the clues. He posted the pictures all over our neighborhood, and at the end of the hunt I found Paul and Ellie (and a ton of strangers who had gathered to watch) standing with roses. Paul got down on one knee, and of course I said yes. But he wasn’t done just yet. It just so happened to be Sri Lankan day in Santa Monica that evening, so to celebrate we relived our first date.

When designing our wedding, we wanted to incorporate lots of color and flowers inspired by the cultures that Paul and I love. We didn’t want it to be too girly. So I was especially thrilled when I stumbled upon Hmong runners and napkins from Thailand. We couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything came together and we cannot thank all our vendors enough for all their hard work to make our day just perfect!

Collaborative Pennsylvania Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Justin Tearney

When bride and groom Heather and Scott started to take on endless DIY projects for their wedding day, they had no shortage of friends and family willing to lend a hand and help tackle the decor. The result is a day at Fox Hill Farm that’s a true collaborative effort, with beautiful thoughtful details everywhere you turn and a wedding photographed by Justin Tearney that will be remembered for years and years to come.

From the bride, Heather: It was really important to us that our celebration reflected and honored our individuals stories and our history together. My grandmother was an artist and her hand painted silk scarves made beautiful runners for the dessert tables, cocktail tables and more. I even used one of her unpainted scarves as a sash. Scott, a photographer, brought his father’s 4×5 camera to be used in photographs. We had recently moved back North after living in Nashville for eight years, so we went with a Southern inspired menu including chicken and waffles, Mac and cheese, hush puppies and pork belly sliders. Scott’s father is known in our families for his pies, and we were excited to have him supplement the amazing desserts made by Allie’s Cupcakery and Cafe with some of our favorite pies he makes.

My father is a woodworker and designer and crafted an amazing bar using antique doors, live edge details, and a copper top. It fit in so perfectly at the venue in their Civil War era barn and existing use of antique doors that it ended up staying for use by future couples. In addition he made a second bar section to hide the kegs, and two beautiful live edge tables, one for the photo booth and one for refreshments and programs at the entrance to the ceremony. He also made the wooden welcome sign Heather wrote on to mark the entrance of the venue.

One of our favorite parts of the whole experience was how collaborative it was. Perhaps our friends and families thought we were a little wacky for how many DIY projects we took on, but if they did they never let on, and pitched in enthusiastically to help us in any way they could. Heather and her sisters all worked together to dip dye over 100 napkins. Scott’s sister and her husband surprised us with an incredible performance of Closer to You by Brandi Carlile during the reception. Heather’s mother was the master organizer which is perhaps the most important part when you are planning a completely DIY wedding. The whole event ended up going off without a hitch and we have no doubt it is because of all of the help we had from family and friends in so many more ways than we could ever list here.

Minnesota Hilltop Elopement Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Melissa Oholendt

If the ceremony arch and bouquet combination from today’s shoot by Melissa Oholendt, Munster Rose, and FAB Event Design doesn’t stop you in your tracks, well we just don’t know what to say. Us? We’re completely floored by the floral arrangements, that lace gown (and the jumpsuit!), and the delicious cocktails. Luckily we’ve got the recipes so you can whip up the yummy drinks for yourself!

Minnesota hilltop elopement inspiration - photo by Melissa Oholendt https://ruffledblog.com/minnesota-hilltop-elopement-inspiration

From the floral designers, Munster Rose: Even though the Midwest is known for it’s harsh winters, we are lucky enough to truly get to experience all four seasons including a spectacular and prolonged fall season. October and November have seen a resurgence in popularity where we’ve seen bride & grooms take full advantage of the beautiful colors and textures that are completely unique to our autumn season.

We took our inspiration directly from the fabulous fall textures and bundled it with an epic rolling hillside elopement and chic cocktail-focused reception (because who doesn’t love a negroni in the fall?). We wanted to take the outdoor element that the Midwest is known for but turn it on it’s head and make it chic, romantic and ever so slightly poetic to play off of L.M. Montgomery’s quote in Anne of Green Gables “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Because we are oh-so-glad we live in a world where there are Octobers.

Al Fresco Beach Wedding in La Jolla

Beach Weddings

This gorgeous Tuscan inspired wedding created by Evangeline Lane Photography, First Comes Love San Diego and Organic Elements is nothing short of breathtaking. The touches of Italian influences throughout every part of this wedding will make you believe that it took place right in an Italian villa. From the gelato bar to the lush florals, this wedding is absolutely stunning.

Tuscan countryside inspired wedding in La Jolla - photo by Evangeline Lane Photography https://ruffledblog.com/tuscan-countryside-inspired-wedding-in-la-jolla

From the photographer, Sarah: We wanted a Tuscan daytime family style wedding. We wanted it to feel like we were at someone’s home. I used to live in Florence and spent a lot of time in Tuscany out in the countryside. It was important to recreate this feeling. The hotel was a perfect place to do that. We didn’t have a color scheme per se but we wanted natural colors and not one color to stand out.

Flower recipe: I had a really long cascading bouquet. My mom also had one at her wedding in 1984. Mine had coral garden roses, soft pink peonies, pale coral dahlias, soft orange dahlias, tuberose, dark centered white anemones, white ranunculus, silver dollar eucalyptus, and olive branches.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? We planned it in 6 months, it was perfect. Not too much time to stress. We also loved having it on a Sunday so we could enjoy the whole weekend with friends and family. I would highly suggest a Sunday wedding… We all went to the pool after and that night we just relaxed. I loved having it during the day because we got to be with all of our guests and have fun.

From the photographer, Evangeline Lane Photography: Sarah and Aristo have a love for all things Italy. While planning their La Jolla wedding, it was important to find a location that allowed us to create an intimate feeling of having your closest friends and family over at a private villa. We found the perfect setting in Estancia – the Olive Lawn felt like the Tuscan countryside with steps where the couple said their “I Dos.” In lieu of a wedding party the couple had the children enter before them – with flower wands and crowns. For the reception, we brought in a sheer chiffon canopy to shade the garden and adorned extra long tables with burlap table cloths topped with crisp white linens and etched glassware. Each place setting was completed with a menu with a place card clipped to it along with a sprig of fresh herbs. For florals, large footed bowls overflowed with greenery and flowers of all different colors and the end of the tables were capped with flower runners that reached the floor. To complete the theme, food was served family style, there was a gelato bar and of course plenty of Italian wines served tableside.

Mountain Vineyard Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

You might have caught on to this by now, but any time I see a sequined wedding gown, my heart skips a beat or two. This styled shoot from Rebecca Masters Photography, Allure with Decor, and Beyond the Garden Gate uses not one but two sparkly frocks, and pairs them with lush floral design and pomegranate accents for a look that’s more than perfect for chillier seasons.

From the photographer, Rebecca Masters Photography: Nestled in the beautiful Applegate Valley, Red Lily Vineyard’s “Stargazer Knoll” was the perfect location for our rustic yet elegant, autumn wedding shoot. With an abundance of towering oak trees, and the breathtaking Siskiyou mountains surrounding, what better to depict the little-known gem which is the Southern Oregon wine country.

Romantic Wedding at John James Audubon

Romantic Weddings

Whimsy, romance, glamour, vintage charm — this wedding from Maria Mack Photography has it all. Maria and Michael’s wedding in Pennsylvania was everything they could hope for, including a reception space completely decked out in colorful ribbons and two incredibly stunning gowns for the bride. Thank you Buttercup and Elevee Events for beautiful design work on this day!

romantic wedding at John James Audubon - photo by Maria Mack Photography https://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-at-john-james-audubon

From the bride, Maria: We really wanted a Whimsical Vintage Glamour feel. We wanted it to be beautiful and romantic, while making sure it really showed our personalities and personal style. Our venue had a beautiful, rustic, natural landscape which we designed the rest of the wedding around. We didn’t have a specific color scheme – we wanted it to be colorful with a mix of color with elegant pops of glamour – hence the sequin details on our bridal party, glamourous second gown, and twinkle lights throughout the space. We used mismatched china, a beautiful designed sweetheart table with a chandelier, and had our entire reception pavilion draped with colorful ribbon.

Oregon Garden Resort Wedding

Garden Weddings

We love when a bride knows exactly what she wants, and today’s bride knew from the very beginning that a garden wedding would be perfect for her big day. Jamie Rae Photography, Whitney Werts Events, and Swoon Floral Design all did phenomenal work bringing Chrissie and Michael’s dreams to reality, incorporating tons of dahlias and other beautiful blooms for a truly romantic feel.

Oregon garden resort wedding - photo by Jamie Rae Photography https://ruffledblog.com/oregon-garden-resort-wedding

From the bride, Chrissie: I always dreamt of having a garden wedding! I would dream of floral and trees surrounding my entire day. I also wanted to implement light colors, lace, and create a lot of decor items myself. I am so pleased to say my dream has come true! When we got engaged, my fiancé and I lived 5-10 minutes away from the Oregon Gardens resort. We both drove past it every single day. The week after we got engaged we talked about possible venue options. We both agreed that a Garden wedding was what we both wanted. I booked our venue at the Oregon Gardens for August 22, which was the ONLY day available for that year! We got so lucky!!!

I was able to make several DIY projects for my wedding! It made it such a personal thing for me. I designed my “Advice” box for the welcome table, created the reception center piece with round woods, doilies, vase buds, sewed together lace around every 2 mason jars per table, and many more small details for the reception tables. My Maid of Honor painted bible verses on stained wood planks for our isle decor. These wood planks were tied on white lace to hang on Shepard hooks for our ceremony aisle. Michael and his grandfather also built our ceremony cross. Michael and I stained it just a couple days before the wedding :)

From the Photographer, Jamie Rae Photography: Chrissie and Michael had a very special summer wedding. Warm winds blew smoke filled air from eastern forest fires, giving an extra glow to the Oregon Garden Resort and creating a unique and fun ambiance to photograph. Like Chrissie and Michael themselves, their day was filled with with an authentic and vibrant joy… joy for each other, of course, but also for their guests, family, and faith. Chrissie and Michael both took their wedding vows very seriously, and as a photographer who sees multiple weddings per year this commitment not only to each other but to the act and commitment of marriage left me extra inspired as I walk out my own marriage.

Italian Destination Wedding for a Wedding Planner

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Les Amis Photo

There’s no better way to kick off the week than with a destination wedding in Italy. The dream team of Les Amis Photo and Il Profumo Dei Fiori worked together on this beautiful wedding for couple Barbara and Michele. Barbara is a wedding planner herself with Four Nineteen Weddings, so it comes as little surprise that her day would be gorgeous from beginning to end!

Italian destination wedding for a wedding planner - photo by Les Amis Photo https://ruffledblog.com/italian-destination-wedding-for-a-wedding-planner

From the bride, Barbara: When you are a wedding planner specializing in destination weddings, planning your own destination wedding is actually quite an experience! For us, Italy was, without a doubt, the place to celebrate our marriage. Michele is Italian and I, well I just love everything about Italy. At the time of our engagement, we had been considering planning a trip with friends to the Puglia region, which is by far, one of my favorite places in Italy, and not as known as other Italy wedding destinations (like Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast). When looking for a place to rent for this trip, we came across the most stunning masseria in the Salento region, Masseria Torre Ruggeri, and upon seeing photos of it, we just knew, that that was where we had to have our wedding. Sight unseen, we booked the masseria before even telling anyone we were engaged. At first, I truly thought about handling every single aspect of the planning myself, against the most important advice I give all brides considering a destination wedding. About two months into the planning, I realized that I should actually follow my own advice if I wanted to really enjoy my wedding day (and not have it feel like work). I did not want to have one of Four Nineteen Weddings other planners have to work either, so I needed to find someone local that understood my vision and was OK with the fact that I was going to handle pretty much everything about the wedding except for the day-of logistics. I also needed them to help us finalize some details that were pending, and was so happy to find Katia and Francesco at Lecceventi, who were absolutely fantastic (and so very sweet)!

During the planning process, one of the questions my clients asked the most was “How did you decide how you wanted your wedding to be with all the inspiration and images you see every day for work?”. Truth is, it was very simple for me (I must say, my sweet husband let me do what I pleased in this regard). I knew that I wanted something simple but lovely, and to have the venue itself, the buildings, the citrus garden, the olive trees, the courtyard, the sky, be the center of attention. I was craving to doing a lot of DIY (mostly because doing all these little projects was, belive it or not, a bit of “therapy” for me in the midst of our crazy Costa Rican wedding season). I wanted to incorporate some blue printed fabric in the design and found some vintage blue batik textile on Etsy that became our design inspiration. After buying 40 meters of the fabric (and getting it shipped from Indonesia to Costa Rica), I went from considering making napkins out of them to finally deciding on using them as runners. Being a fan of mixing patterns, the fabric inspired me to buy every piece of blue hued patterned fabric I could get my hands on (pillow covers, scarves to use as highboy overlays, wraps to use as throws for the lounges…) The better part of a day was spent dip dyeing sixty plain cotton napkins in a not so subtle blue ombre design (this was probably my favorite project and also the one I loved the outcome of the most). Michele and I spent days making little wood signs and table numbers from scratch and actually worked on the wedding day making a tulle backdrop for the ceremony spot and hanging ribbon from chairs and trees in the citrus garden. I also designed all the paper goods, and with the help of Michele’s family, made the favors (little bottles of olive oil from olives grown in his uncle’s property, that double up as seating cards).

I really wanted our vendors to be inspired and not feel like they were having their creativity thwarted with a set idea of how I wanted thing to look. I truly believe that if you pick the vendors that are perfect for you, or those whose work you love, or with whom you feel a special connection (or let yourself be guided to those who are, which is the case of destination weddings, when you really have to trust your planner to find the perfect vendors for your vision), then you really can’t go wrong. We truly lucked out in that between our research and Katia & Francesco’s help, we had some pretty talented vendors on our side. The catering was absolutely spectacular (there was actually a guy making bocconcini LIVE at the cocktail hour); our sweet officiant, Victoria, who delivered a custom ceremony that left no dry eye in the house;, the live musicians were fabulous; our lighting designer/DJ did an awesome job with illuminating the already lovely space and an even better job of getting everyone on the dance floor… Last but not least, I am lucky that two of my best friends are a talented stylist and a fabulous makeup artist and that they so graciously gifted their time to me on my wedding day – believe it or not, I did not ask for a hair and makeup trial and the only direction I actually gave them was “braids” and “yes, I do want those fake eyelashes”.

We had the good fortune of having a quite a few of our family and close friends join us for the wedding, and most of them actually spent the whole week (or a good part of it) with us at the Masseria (we also rented the house next door, the lovely Masseria Fondo Paolo). In the end, what we wanted was our wedding to be more than just the wedding day itself (although that was one of the high points); we wanted it to be a unique experience for everyone, something that was not the typical Italian vacation but something that really put Italy, and more so the Salento region, in everyone’s hearts (which it most certainly did). We also opted to step away from tradition a bit. We did not have a wedding party or a wedding cake, my son walked me down the aisle, and I actually decided on using my engagement ring, that I love, as a wedding ring (and in the emotion of the moment, I actually gave my husband the wrong hand to put the ring on; and did not realize it until we were doing portraits!)… Ultimately, I think that the choices you make regarding your wedding day have to feel right for you, regardless of whether or not they adhere strictly to tradition or expectations. While a beautiful wedding is one of my favorite things in the world… I think the most important thing about a wedding is love… not only that shared by the you and your husband but that love that radiates from everyone around you.

Elegant Colorado Winter Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Lisa O'Dwyer

When we talk about picture-perfect weddings, this one tops the list — for example, the scenery during the ceremony was so picturesque we had to do a double take to make sure it was real! Thank you, Colorado. Lisa O’Dwyer, Pink Diamond Events, and Hana Style Designs all lived up to their incredible potential working on Joette and Justin’s wedding day, full of darling details and great ideas to inspire your own wedding day.

elegant Colorado winter wedding - photo by Lisa ODwyer Photography https://ruffledblog.com/elegant-colorado-winter-wedding

From the bride, Joette: We both love the outdoors and wanted a beautiful, natural scene for the backdrop of our wedding. We wanted the day to represent who we are and to be an intimate celebration with the people closest to us. We wanted get out of town and I asked Justin – beach or mountains? He picked mountains. Oddly enough, my parents have friends who just finished building out a home in Estes Park, and they had extended an invitation to visit. My mom and I went for a weekend, and it was just beautiful. I sent Justin some pictures and then my mom and I spent the weekend looking at venues with her friend as our personal guide.

I think our wedding was classic and timeless in a rustic setting (for lack of more eloquent words!). I wanted soft tones to balance out the wood and the dark room at the reception. Overall it was exactly what I envisioned and the images perfectly capture that feeling. Our personalities are a mix of rugged and soft. I believe our flowers included some hydrangeas and soft pink roses, we had some greenery hanging from the chandeliers. We also incorporated branches in the table settings and our florist spray painted some succulents gold which was an awesome touch.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? The double edged sword is that images and ideas are readily available through print and social media. It’s incredibly helpful and yet overwhelming. It also makes it easier to get swept up in all of the wrong things and forget why you are truly planning a wedding. When your wedding day comes there are always elements outside of your control – no matter how much planning you have done. Surround yourself with people you can trust and go into the day knowing that you may have a good story or two to tell. The goal is not a perfect day, but a joyful life together.

Parisian Twilight Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Navy blue and gold make a timeless combo, and they work brilliantly together in this styled shoot from Kelli Boyd Photography, Grace Graffiti, and The Vine. This talented team of vendors used a real life couple who recently got engaged in France, so a theme of Parisian Twilight fit the bill wonderfully! Let’s jump right on in:

Parisian Twilight Wedding Inspiration - photo by Kelli Boyd Photography https://ruffledblog.com/parisian-twilight-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Grace Graffiti: With such a talented group of vendors, we thought it would be best to let each vendor have full creative control of their area of expertise. We wanted to showcase each other’s strengths and how amazing a wedding can look when your have a team of vendors that work well together. Our model couple just recently were engaged in Paris, France, so the theme of a Parisian Wedding fit perfectly. From the chandelier hanging from the trees to the sabering of sparkling wine to the floral macaron wedding cake, our couple were able to reminisce their engagement in the international city of love.

Backyard Garden Wedding in San Diego

Romantic Weddings

When is it ever not a good day for a garden wedding? This gorgeous event was put together by the bride and her ever-so-talented planners/designers Amorology and Devynn’s Garden in control of floral design, and it was up to Jeremy Chou Photography to capture everything for a lifetime of memories. Everything was a raving success, as you’ll see from these images!

backyard garden wedding in San Diego - photo by Jeremy Chou Photography https://ruffledblog.com/backyard-garden-wedding-in-san-diego

From the bride, Corrie: I grew up in the country and I envisioned a romantic and soft look with a old California feel. We chose our venue because it was how I envisioned California during the days of the missions and farmers. I have a childhood memory of my mom’s rose garden mixing in with native California succulents. I wanted my wedding to have that childhood memory. I also wanted to incorporate orange, blue, yellow and pink mixed with succulents and wood because I think the soft colors compliant the darker colors of the wood and succulents. All of my mason jars filled with sand were assembled by myself.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I tried to be economical and plan and design my wedding myself and I relied heavily on Pinterest and Etsy. My advice for working professionals is to just hire a wedding coordinator. I worked with Amorology for the last 30 days and they had great advice and unfortunately I discovered they could have found better deals for me on decor and vendors.

Contemporary La Jolla Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

When you’ve got a bride who’s heavily engrossed in the art world, it’s a safe bet her wedding is going to be a thing of beauty. Such is the case with this lovely day from Jacqueline Schlossman / READYLUCK, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events, and The Dainty Lion. There was no shortage of modern decor and jewel toned accents, all coming together for a look that’s fresh and stylish.

contemporary La Jolla wedding - photo by Jacqueline Schlossman for Readyluck https://ruffledblog.com/contemporary-la-jolla-wedding

From the event designers, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events: Nicole and Davey are probably the most low maintenance couple I’ve ever worked with. When we met, their only request was to help create a colorful, contemporary wedding, filled with purples, oranges and pinks. It’s not surprising given their background. Nicole’s family is from England and heavily involved in the La Jolla, CA art world – Nicole owns an art gallery; her mother, Margaret Jackson, is an avid art collector and serves on the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla; and, her father owns Cavallo Vintage Motorsports. Getting to work with such an artistic family as well as so many different gem-tones was brilliant, and really inspired the rest of the décor for their wedding.

Being right on the Pacific ocean, the couple wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy the beautiful view and get a real sense of the breathtaking downtown La Jolla (aptly named since it means ‘jewel’ in Spanish). The ceremony was held at St. James by the Sea and the 300+ person reception followed at the La Jolla Country Club. While the Club has beautiful Spanish bones, we wanted to offset the more traditional feel. So, we created a modern vibe through custom Osborne & Little table runners, black and white La Tavola linens accented with gold sequins, bright pops of floral, specialty Casa de Perrin flatware, brightly colored butterfly name cards at each of the place settings, and a family-style food service, all while paying homage to the character of the venue with vintage wood tables and mirrors.

Following dinner, we laid out the spectacular display of Michele Coulon sweet treats – each bonbon a little jewel itself! And finally, guests bid the couple goodbye with sparklers as Nicole and Davey sped away in their sky blue vintage Aston Martin getaway car. Color was infused all throughout the decor and kept the space feeling light and bright. With so many people in attendance, the colorful palette also helped to keep the event wonderfully intimate and fun. Being a part of this wedding was so special, and getting to witness the love that these two have for each other and their families, was so meaningful. Their personalities were spotlighted throughout, my favorite being the illuminated “LOVE” marquee sign on the mantelpiece above the head table, which for me added the cherry on top of this perfectly, colorful day!

Flora and Fauna Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Flora and fauna — what better inspiration for a beautiful outdoor celebration? Today’s styled shoot from the talented team of Michelle Chiu Photography, Darling Event & Co., and Martha Claire Floral brings together a wedding day vignette inspired by antique botany and zoology illustrations, which you can see right away in the invitation suite. Add in some stunning copper elements, and you’ve got a positively enviable look!

flora and fauna wedding inspiration - photo by Michelle Chiu Photography https://ruffledblog.com/flora-and-fauna-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Tara of Darling Event & Co.: Our main inspiration stemmed from antique botany and zoology illustrations. These detailed, accurate, hand-crafted drawings and paintings are nods to all that weddings represent: a focus on deep realities and a quest for truth, all the while showcasing something incredibly gorgeous. These antique illustrations are often completed in jewel tones – vibrant and rich, without ever feeling too bold. Using this same palette, Martha Claire Floral brought in a variety of large blooms with lots of textures and greenery, creating that same mood. Her whimsical combination of oversized ferns with dahlias and garden roses almost demands a scientific examination. The bride’s simple hair bouquet is reminiscent of a day spent outside, just soaking up all of nature’s bounty.

Her color palette was mimicked and highlighted by BorrowedBlu with all the tabletop goods. Their team also brought in another element from the natural world: copper. All the metal accents featured are copper – from the modern terrariums from Anthropologie to the oversized version of these terrariums made to be the ceremony ‘arch’ installation (designed and built by Tara at Darling Event & Co). With details from calligrapher Leah Moss, an equally beautiful and delicious dessert spread from Sweet & Saucy Shop, a gown from Watters Wtoo, and beauty done by Nicol Artistry Makeup & Hair, this day truly represented all that’s wonderful about Flora & Fauna.

The whole shoot was envisioned, curated, and brought together by me, Tara, of Darling Event & Co. It’s an honor to have worked with such a talented team, some of whom I met as fellow attendees at Angel Swanson’s inaugural Love & Splendor workshops, and others through the power of this incredible industry. The connections of a solid vendor team make all the difference, even for a stylized shoot, but especially for a bride preparing for her big day.

Best of 2015: Bouquets

Wedding Design

What would a Best Of list be without mentioning bouquets? No matter how many we see over the years, they’re all unique snowflakes full of their own distinct beauty, so you can imagine how difficult it was to compile this list of 2015’s Best Bouquets. In no particular order, here’s our mix of our favorite + the most popular bouquets:

Modern Black and White Wedding with Emerald

Modern Weddings

Any couple who describes their wedding theme as “Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West” has already garnered my attention and adoration, and this wedding did not disappoint. Sarah Libby Photography, Everything Beautiful OKC, and Leigh and Louise Design came together to work on Avery and Michael’s modern wedding with a clean color palette of black, white, gold, and green, with a bit of burgundy in the floral arrangements for good measure.

modern black and white wedding with emerald - photo by Sarah Libby Photography https://ruffledblog.com/modern-black-and-white-wedding-with-emerald

From the bride, Avery: I would describe our wedding style as Kate Spade meets Boho chic. If Kate Spade fell into a forest, that’s the feel we were going for. Somehow our end phrase became Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t follow protocol. Just because that’s the way it’s always been done doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be. Make it your own and then own it. Secondly, take a moment to take it all in, it. Thirdly, don’t pay $1,000 for your veil. A full cathedral veil with a blusher cost us $18.00.

From the photographer, Sarah Libby Photography:
Michael and Avery were married this fall with a modern, fresh, and fun vibe. Avery stunned in her long sleeve plunging neck gown by Madison James from Beloved Bridal and Michael could not stop looking at her. Michael surprised her with her grandmother’s ring to wear as her wedding band and the tears flowed. The bridesmaids wore bold emerald Badgley MIschka gowns and the groomsmen wore a classic tux. They were married at sunset overlooking the Oklahoma farmlands. They chose bold tablecloths to fancy up their reception space and chose a non-traditional cake table filled with fancy donuts and cookies. They also had specialty pizza’s prepared for all of their guests from their favorite pizza place. They had a confetti entrance to their reception and partied with family and friends before their sparkler sendoff!

Coral Wedding with a Flower Ceremony Backdrop

Romantic Weddings

Who doesn’t need a nice dose of bright colors in winter? Allison and Chris’ whimsical wedding uses a color palette of coral and grey with a beautiful array of flowers and succulents, including dahlias, garden roses, and craspedia. Artistrie Co., Life in Bloom, and Midwestern Bride did beautiful work here!

coral wedding with a flower ceremony backdrop - photo by Artistrie Co https://ruffledblog.com/coral-wedding-with-a-flower-ceremony-backdrop

From the photographers, Artistrie Co.: This Rivers Restaurant wedding is what dreams are made of. With floral design by Life in Bloom, make-up by Joanna B Artistry, hair by Debra Petrielli, coordination by Midwestern Bride, and DJ-ing by Toast & Jam, where can you go wrong? That’s a dream team of Chicago wedding vendors if I’ve ever seen one! Add that to a beautiful outdoor setting along the Chicago River, and you have found the most perfectly adorable wedding ever. Allison and Chris’ summer soiree was bright, cheerful and perfectly them.

In honor of it being Sunday, Allison had the most adorable little mimosa bar set up in the hotel room as the ladies got their hair and make-up done. There was even a little sign that said “Sundays are for mimosas” which I couldn’t agree with more. Allison’s bridal suite looked out onto LaSalle Street where the couple would meet to see each other that very afternoon. The bridesmaids dressed in bright coral dresses with aqua blue necklaces and the men donned light gray suits with coral ties — a perfect combination for summer! This wedding party was so much fun to work with as we traveled around the city for portraits. My favorite stop was a bright teal painted building featuring a large mural of a moose blowing bubble gum. The wedding party lined up in front of this mural with their own version of bubble gum which made for one of my favorite photos of the year.

When the wedding party arrived to Rivers Restaurant, the festivities were ready to begin. The ceremony backdrop by Life in Bloom was a showstopper. Allison, Chris and their wedding party stood in front of a soft white curtain featuring floating vases of flowers as the couple exchanged their vows to one another. As I learned during their engagement session, Allison is a self-proclaimed confetti queen. Naturally, she had packets of confetti for each guest to toss as the newlyweds walked hand-in-hand down the aisle. It was a beautiful ceremony! Afterwards the patio transitioned to the dining space for their romantic riverside reception. The patio featured long tables, chevron linens, brightly colored blooms, succulent name cards, and beautifully strung bistro lights. Guests enjoyed the views of the city from along the river as they dined and sipped on the couple’s signature drink: Michigan apple sangria. The whole day was perfect from start to finish.

Surprise Holiday Elopement Brunch

Wedding Design

A holiday elopement brunch? Get out of town, because you just mentioned three of my favorite things. This styled shoot from Jenna Bechtholt Photography and Dandy & Fine Parties pairs a chic brunch celebration with festive holiday decor, using gold and black in the chicest of ways and adding punches of bright red and soft pink floral accents.

surprise holiday elopement brunch - photo by Jenna Bechtholt Photography https://ruffledblog.com/surprise-holiday-elopement-brunch

From the event designers, Dandy & Fine Parties: We absolutely love elopements celebrated with an intimate group of closest friends. We also love the idea of a wedding brunch, set with a fancy pants mimosa bar. Then add the holiday season in with all of it’s lovely rich jewel tones and soft, velvety textures. And on top of it all, the bride and groom are surprising their friends who have no idea they have just eloped! So, they casually send out their online invitations for a Holiday Celebration to throw them off track. Then, they officially announce their elopement at the first cheers of the morning!

As the guests arrive they are invited to belly up to the Bubbly Bar where they can build their own holiday mimosa in gold sugar rimmed glasses, with a choice of apple cider, cranberry juice, pomegranate juice or rose water. Then they can top it off with extra festive garnishes like cinnamon sticks, sugar dusted cranberries, rock candy sticks, rosemary or pomegranate seeds. Now is the the time for that first cheers of the morning… let the celebrations begin!

It’s time for brunch! Everyone sits down to a table setting decked out in lush, wintry glamour. The black velvet table runner is topped with romantic, voluptuous floral arrangements, and the taper candles in gilded candlesticks add extra regal glamour. Vintage glassware in pops of green and blue jewel tones grace each place setting. The china is topped with cranberry linen napkins carefully tied with black velvet ribbons with gold polka dots and thoughtful, calligraphed name cards. Gilded eucalyptus also makes an appearance to add that last fine detail. To get extra festive, mini green garlands are tied to each chair back. The celebration goes on for hours, pretty much all day, as the bubbles keep flowing! A beautiful wintry day of gathering around the table with the best of friends and celebrating love, that will forever be cherished.

Parisian Botanical Garden Wedding

Garden Weddings

Goodness, we have so much love for this wedding. Thanks to its classic color palette and beautiful decor, it could easily have come out of any season of the year! Divine Light Photography captured the entire day, while Flowers & Flowers designed gorgeous bouquets and boutonnieres and the bride tackled all the reception flowers on her own.

Parisian botanical garden wedding - photo by Divine Light Photography https://ruffledblog.com/parisian-botanical-garden-wedding

From the bride, Juliana: We wanted our wedding to be soft and romantic. We wanted guests to feel as if they stepped foot into an intimate secret garden party styled wedding. We wanted to have some soft tones like blush while still having some pops of color like raspberry and other berry tones; colors that you would typically find in a garden! We definitely wanted to stand out and be a little different.

Flower recipe: The bouquet was done by a florist and I believe he used dahlias, astilbe, eucalyptus, spray roses and lisianthus. For our centerpieces we used dahlias, spray roses, garden roses, astilbe, eucalyptus, anemone, stock, dusty miller, and celosia to name a few.

There were quite a few DIY projects! The invitations were hand painted by my dad who is an incredible person! He is a French painter/artist who suffered a massive stroke. He lost his ability to speak but is still able to paint wonderful art. So he painted the invitations, table names (Places in Paris), the seating chart, ceremony sign, jelly jar signs, etc. He did the paintings and then John and I laid it out ourselves in Adobe Illustrator. We also collected milk glass vases and the pink French depression wine glasses, and we made our own mercury glass vases. The flowers were also DIY. We ordered and picked them up from a flower market in the South Bronx and had a close family friend help assemble them! I also painted our chair signs and our bike sign. John and I made the jellies with his aunt that we gave to guests as their gift. We also made a quilt sign and our Aunt will be sewing us our wedding quilt that everyone signed.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t rush to pick vendors too quickly! We really did our research on each vendor and we were confident they would do a great job. Also, if you think you can do the flowers all on your own, you can’t. Make sure you have family and friends on deck to help assemble and transport to your venue! If you have a clear vision of what you want, make sure to express that with images. You can never be too detailed!

Alexis June Weddings

Hello beautiful! We’re Brandi + Ryan, the husband-wife photographers behind Alexis June Weddings. So who is Alexis June? They are the two loves of our life, our daughters, Kierstyn {whose middle name is Alexis} and Kaija {who was born in June}. Two years ago we sold everything we own to pursue our dreams and move across the country to NYC. We’ve been married for nine years and still crazy in love. Ryan speaks Norwegian. Brandi loves everything about Norway. Ryan has his MBA from Notre Dame, but loves to cook. Brandi was a journalist in the United States Air Force and eats everything Ryan cooks. Together with our girls we live in Atlanta, Georgia and cherish every day together.

Being wedding photographers is an honor and a privilege, to be a part of one of the most important moments in a someone’s life is deeply personal. Capturing a couple’s love story together makes what we do even more special. We have laughed, we have cried and we have experienced those joyous moments when its more about two individuals joining as one and less about the details. It’s about the marriage. It’s about the future. Love is a gorgeous thing and we are truly passionate about what we do. We believe everyone has a story and it should be told.

This is our story, what is yours?

Fall Calligraphy Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

This fall inspiration shoot is made up of a perfect recipe of gorgeous calligraphy, rich red floral design, and an inspired tablescape that’s sure to make you start planning your next dinner party. Gina Paulson Photography did brilliant work capturing it all, while Wild Carrot Studio did some serious magic with the floral arrangements!

fall calligraphy wedding inspiration - photo by Gina Paulson Photography https://ruffledblog.com/fall-calligraphy-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Gina Paulson Photography: I always love when these rich color tones make their way back into my creative palette and I couldn’t wait to put together a bridal inspiration shoot centered around the changing of seasons. The color palette we focused on was all about FALL and is full of warmth and richness. We thought it was a great complement to the natural earthiness of the pacific northwest setting we shot at. I pulled together a local group of vendors for this who were able to contribute hand dip-dyed napkins, hand-lettered details, a simple yet elegant dress and some gorgeous wild fall florals.

Relaxed Brunch Wedding in Florida

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

The Ganeys

Nothing beats the combination of my two favorite things, brunch and weddings. Sara and Jon’s wedding was full of unbeatable sunlight, lots of good eats, and plenty of smiling faces — just as it should be. An incredible team of vendors pulled this day together, including The Ganeys, Oh So Classy Events, Andrea Layne Floral Design, and Ever After Vintage Weddings!

relaxed brunch wedding in Florida - photo by The Ganeys https://ruffledblog.com/relaxed-brunch-wedding-in-florida

From the photographer, The Ganeys: Sara and Jon’s love is one for the record books. These two are bright, playful, and filled with joy. They are best friends – and it is so clear that they are about to embark on a journey filled with love. Sara and Jon’s wedding took place at Lakeside Ranch in Inverness, Florida. The day started off foggy, but it burned off as the day continued. Sara and Jon wanted their wedding to really be about them. Neither of them felt compelled to dance the night away – so they opted for a brunch wedding (just throwing it out there – I’m a huge fan!). They shared the sweetest first look. Jon had the biggest smile on his face and gave Sara a huge hug.

Sara’s bouquet was beautiful! Created by Andrea Layne Floral Design – it was a piece of art. One of the ribbons wrapped around the bouquet was from Sara’s grandmother’s wedding dress – do you see the buttons? Their ceremony took place at 11:00. Designed by Ever After Vintage Weddings, wooden stumps with candles, lanterns, colored glass, and flowers lined the aisle. A macramé curtain was the backdrop for the ceremony. The wedding party made their way down the aisle, Sara’s brother walked Buddy, their dog. Sara made her entrance on a green vintage truck. Her dad proudly accompanied her down the aisle, carrying her late-mother’s Bible.

Their ceremony was short and sweet. At the end of the wedding, the officiant told Jon he could kiss his bride – everyone cheered. Then, the officiant announced, “Sara, you may not kiss your groom!” and the group cheered again. It was too sweet. Brunch drinks were enjoyed during cocktail hour and the guests made their way to the barn as Bay Kings Band serenaded the group. Guests found their seat (and their party animal) at farm tables covered in lanterns and colored bottles – brimming with flowers. The wedding ended with a beautiful bubble send off as we all wished the newlyweds well.

Upstate New York Wedding at Bedford Post Inn

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Pat Furey

Tara and John share a love of discovering new restaurants, so it makes sense that a big part of their wedding day would be focused around good food. Bedford Post Inn fit the bill with both beautiful scenery and delectable goodies, while True Event planned everything and Hana Floral Design shone on floral design. Thanks to Pat Furey for capturing this day so well!

From the bride, Tara: Many of our favorite memories together over the years involve exploring new restaurants. So when it came to choosing a location for our wedding, we knew finding a venue with amazing food and an intimate dining experience was a must. We had been to Bedford Post before for brunch at The Barn and fell in love with the aesthetic of the space—rustic chic meets classic elegance with the comfort of home. When we went back to Bedford as a potential wedding venue and toured the rest of the property we knew that we had found something special. And the fact that a charming stone church for our ceremony was located right down the road in the historic section of town made it all the more perfect.

wedding party - photo by Pat Furey https://ruffledblog.com/upstate-new-york-wedding-at-bedford-post-inn

The layout of the inn naturally lends itself to the intimate atmosphere that we were hoping to create: 4 distinct spaces that our guests could experience throughout the evening and charming guestrooms for our family and bridal party to spend the night. On a perfect summer afternoon, guests were greeted with rosé and Prosecco by the reflecting pool where they enjoyed passed canapes and an instrumental set by The Silver Arrow Band. They then moved into the main Farmhouse Dining Room for dinner. We played to the natural romantic setting of the dining room by focusing on the lighting, table settings, and music. The goal for dinner was to share a proper seated meal with family and friends to give everyone a chance to enjoy the food and conversation before moving outside for live music and dancing. The rustic wood tables were lined with lanterns and votives and decorated with garlands of eucalyptus, jasmine vines, and various greens. Tucked among the greens were blooms of neutral/blush roses. Guests dined on Campagna staples, including cappelletti, lobster, and filet of beef. A speakeasy style lounge adjacent to the dining room was the perfect meeting place for friends to catch-up over a martini or Manhattan.

After dinner, guests were ushered outside to the patio. Under a clear tent adorned with bistro lights, family and friends enjoyed live music by The Silver Arrow Band who had everyone up on their feet. An extra touch was the dessert bar located off the dance floor, which was stocked with delicious treats. For those who wanted to keep the party going, the Barn’s loft space and adjacent garden transformed into the ideal summer night after party. In the loft, NYC DJ Michelle von Mandel supplied the perfect feel-good beachy tunes for those who were up for a late night dance party. Through the large farmhouse loft doors the music spilled out into the garden where a roaring fire pit made for a relaxed setting for those who wanted to lounge and enjoy a late night cocktail / snack. We could not have imagined a more incredible day and feel so fortunate to have shared it with our closest family and friends. A huge thank you to the extremely talented True Event, Hana Floral, and Bedford Post team for helping us to create and achieve our vision and to Pat Furey Photography for putting their unique lens on the day.

Plan My Wedding Please

Ever since I was in grade school, I was obsessed with my penmanship. I would not turn in my homework until it was perfect; it drove my mom crazy! I practiced writing every chance I had and eventually fell in love with this art form. Little did I know, it would be the reason I would fall in love with the wedding industry.

Plan My Wedding Please exists to make every wedding and event magical. My role as wedding planner and calligraphy artist, as cliche as it sounds, is to make your wildest dreams come true. From the little details in signage and invitations, to the big details in wedding gowns, caterers and florals, every detail is important. Every young girl dreams of her wedding day, and I am here to make those dreams become reality. I look forward to working with you!

Autumn Wedding at the Roth Estate

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Danielle Poff

Josh and Cate’s wedding was one for the books in every way. Their goal was understated elegance with nods to nature, and the talents of Danielle Poff and Thistle and Honey certainly helped them to achieve this. The couple also used Pantone’s color of 2015, Marsala, in brilliant ways, showing up all over the place from the tablecloths to the groom’s tie!

From the bride, Cate: We love being in nature and wanted to bring nature in tasteful, romantic ways to our wedding day. I would describe our look as understated elegance, woodsy, personal to us — not just something we saw online that looked pretty, romantic. Our colors were Wine/Marsala, Sage, Blush and Gold.

I custom made, stained, and painted all of our signs (roadside, welcome, directional). The centerpieces included custom cut wood slices purchased from Etsy, table tables hand painted by Kenny Wong, and lanterns which were purchased at IKEA but spray painted Rose Gold by my lovely momma. The furniture used at entrance and for communion were pieces from my home. Our entrance table included crates that I stained myself, a frame we painted gold, hand painted name cards from Kenny Wong (which were my favorite part of the decor: our guests were asked to take their name card but replace it with a Polaroid of themselves so that instead of having a guest book with a bunch of names, Josh and I now have a photo album of all of our wedding guests!). The ribbon wands for the exit were created by knotting three strands of ribbon to a craft stick! We were allowed to use confetti, flowers or sparklers at our venue so we had to get creative here.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Make your wedding personal, make it something special that you will look back on and love why you included that in your day. Know that something is going to go wrong, and know that it is ok–there’s always an alternative option. Enjoy the process of planning and take time to take mental snapshots on your wedding day, soak it in. Couples spend months, even years, planning a single 8 hour event that will quickly fly by so cherish the day and the adventure of being engaged while planning your new favorite day.

Fall Wedding Inspiration with Berries

Wedding Design

There’s no season like fall for deep, rich colors, and today’s shoot from Brittany Michelle Photographer and City Blossoms Event Design has them in spades. The team also added in plenty of fresh fruit — pomegranates, pears, and berries — for a freshly-plucked feel. Of course, we have to mention the cake from Peridot Sweets, which is just about the most perfect autumn wedding cake imaginable.

From the photographer, Brittany Michelle: This wedding inspiration shoot is the collaboration of some of the most talented vendors in the Las Vegas area. Located at the Wetlands Nature Preserve, the background was truly serene and whimsical. The gorgeous floral arrangements set the tone for true romance in the Fall – with burgundies, shades of orange and yellow – pomegranates and pears – gorgeous garden roses and dahlias… Pops of gold and lace in the details add richness and whimsy – and complement the bride’s amazing gown perfectly.

We really loved how all of the gorgeous vintage tableware/china added to the romantic feel of the main table. And the floral “chandelier” was one of the highlights of the shoot. In fact, all of the amazing floral arrangements are really what took this shoot to the next level. We also really loved how the beautifully simple cake was elevated by adding fresh fruit and floral accents.

All of these gorgeous details are made even better with our amazing couple – so sweet and in love. Jess & Mike have the best chemistry and authentic adoration for each other. We spent our time laughing and dancing and basking in the beautiful evening light. This shoot was a dream to be a part of and was the perfect way to usher in a season of Fall weddings!

Modern Wedding at the Fig House in LA

Modern Weddings

The Fig House in LA is the ultimate venue for modern weddings with a bit of vintage flair, just like Trisha and Jason’s wedding. A truly talented team of vendors came together to make this day one to remember, including Heidi Ryder Photography, Honeyfitz Events, and Little Hill Floral Designs. The couple took inspiration from their venue to incorporate Mid-Century-meets-Art-Deco design with strong geometric patterns, and we couldn’t be crazier about the result.

modern wedding at the Fig House in LA - photo by Heidi Ryder Photography https://ruffledblog.com/modern-wedding-at-the-fig-house-in-la

From the bride, Trisha: We fell in love with the bold colors, fantastic stained glass, mid-century modern meets Art Deco decor, and strong geometric patterns of our venue so we decided to lean in to that. We wanted to incorporate bold geometric shapes and the Art Deco/mid-century vibe into everything from decor to our attire. We also wanted a more “glamorous” fun night, as opposed to something softer and romantic, so we used really rich colors.

We used bold colors (rich purples, blues, pink, and gold); gold and rose gold sequins; geometric shapes were incorporated into everything from our invitations to our table arrangements, to the menus, to the hanging floral arrangements. The biggest DIY project I worked on was all the gold picture frames we used for signage and love quotes that I scoured the internet (and Etsy!) for. Because I knew I wanted them all gold, my mom and I went to a bunch of thrift stores and purchased inexpensive frames and then I just spray painted them. Also, our church did not allow flower petals or confetti, so I made sparkle ribbon wands for our flower girls that came out wonderfully!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I’ve got 3 pieces of advice: 1) Hire the best vendors within your budget and then trust them to do their jobs. It’s exhausting trying to do everything yourself. You (and your wonderful fiance) will enjoy the process much more if you don’t have to be involved with every micro-decision along the way. 2) Understand that a lot of people (your family, his family, your close friends, etc.) will have feelings and opinions about your wedding. Rather than get frustrated by that, figure out what’s really important to you and then be willing to let go on some of the things that aren’t. You don’t want anyone to feel hurt or slighted on your wedding day over something that wasn’t super important to you anyway. 3) Set aside nights and weekends with your husband-to-be where you don’t do any wedding planning. Be sure to keep the romance between the two of you so your wedding day is all the more special and magical!

In love wedding photographers with our suitcases packed for adventures. We specialize in personality driven portraiture and emotional storytelling.

Our number one goal on a wedding day is to show truth. We want the vulnerable honest imperfect and gritty real-life stuff. Ugly crying from how stinking happy you are to be married. Southern Keswick Vineyards Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Elisa Bricker

There are a few things we know for sure — flowers will always be in fashion, love is by far the most important ingredient of a wedding day, and any combination of Elisa Bricker and Janie Medley Flora Design is going to knock our socks off. There’s just something about the combination of Elisa’s film images and Janie’s effortless blending of blooms that never ceases to take our breath away. Need some more convincing? Look no further than these images:

southern Keswick Vineyards wedding - photo by Elisa Bricker https://ruffledblog.com/southern-keswick-vineyards-wedding

From the bride, Virginia: We were really excited to bring our loved ones back to where our story began in Charlottesville, Virginia eight years before Patrick proposed in New York City, and we fell in love with the beautiful views (and kind staff!) of Keswick Vineyards. We wanted to combine a traditional, formal wedding with personal and meaningful details in a way that would be enjoyable and memorable for our guests. We had an Episcopalian service in the oldest church in town, and a carillonneur tolled the bells as we exited to our vintage car. My gown had a rhinestone encrusted bodice and straps with a sparkly tulle skirt and bridesmaids wore long dresses. At the reception, we had a seated dinner with gold chargers and a cake topper dating back to Patrick’s grandparents’ wedding. However, we also held our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at a pub near UVA grounds, featured folksy guitar music and corn hole during cocktail hour, and enjoyed a late-night french fry bar at our reception before a departure through sparklers to the after party. I suppose our goal was a blend of fancy and fun!

A few adjectives that describe the look of our wedding are classic, whimsical, sentimental, fairytale, and personalized. I designed our website, save-the-dates, wedding invitations, menus, programs, cocktail napkins, favors, and hand-lettered escort cards, table numbers, various signs, etc. I am a calligrapher and illustrator, contributing designs to other weddings, so it was such a treat doing it for ours! Colors included ivory, black, a pale blush, pink, and gold.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings? I have 10 pieces of advice: 1. Truth be told, planning a wedding can feel stressful at times. We moved and I changed careers a few months before our wedding and it definitely felt like a juggling act, planning everything from a distance. My biggest advice is to always remind yourselves why you’re planning a wedding in the first place. If things are feeling overwhelming, put it all aside and go have a date night and don’t talk about the wedding. The wedding you’re planning will last one day – that’s it. The marriage you’re planning will hopefully last a lifetime. 2. Choose one design aspect to “obsess” over and don’t sweat the rest. For me, it was the paper goods. I allowed myself to spend way too much time on the design and decision process, splurging on letterpress printing methods and hand-lettering all envelopes and place cards. I completely geeked out about all of it! On the same note, I tried not to get bogged down by our other design decisions. I can see how easy it is for couples to change their mind on every detail a million times, but you’ll go crazy if you allow that! 3. If you can fit it into your budget, hire a videographer. The video content is something you’ll cherish for the rest of your lives. 4. Ladies, if your wedding shoes aren’t all that comfortable and your gown covers them, wear a different pair during the ceremony. It was the best decision I ever made. 5. When people tell you it goes by so fast, they aren’t lying. Take as many mental photographs as you can. One of my favorite mental snapshots will always be sneaking out of the rehearsal dinner to practice our first dance routine in a parking lot. 6. When guests start to arrive in town, turn your phone off and hide it in your suitcase. Others can answer questions, and you don’t need to be available to anything other than what’s going on in front of you. 7. Drink a ton of water the day of the wedding. Just do it, and thank me later. 8. Ask a relative or friend if they can save mementos that day — everything from a church program to a wine-stained cocktail napkin. You’ll be surprised what gets lost in the shuffle and it’s fun to have little pieces to hold onto. 9. If you have a small home (like we do!), register for activities once you’ve reached your max on kitchen supplies and home decor. We used Zola, and it was incredible to have a handful of date nights to look forward to after the wedding. 10. If your schedule permits, take a honeymoon directly after your wedding. I cannot fathom another time when a vacation is more needed and enjoyed!

Today’s styled shoot from Rebecca Hollis and Beargrass Gardens ignites the inner nature lover in me, and it’s sure to do the same for you as well! This creative team used a bounty of ferns and fruits to create a fresh take on the woodland wedding, topping everything off with a berry wedding cake that looks almost too good to eat.

From the event designer and florist, Darci of Beargrass Gardens: This inspiration shoot was inspired by the lush ferns that grow abundantly wild in the Montana forests and the fruit trees that grow along Flathead Lake’s shores. Rich and royal colors can be so enchanting and generally stir emotion. Adding fruit and berries will also heighten the senses and therefore, draw your guests in for a memorable and delightful event.

Buzzworthy Events

Hey there! I’m Ashley, a wedding planner based out of San Francisco planning weddings around the world. Creating an event is something that I value. Not only is an event purposeful but one should be well crafted and beautiful. I don’t believe in sacrificing one element for the other. I believe that purpose, craft, design, and strategy are all cohesive elements to produce a successful event. Weddings are so much more than just a celebration or a pretty tabletop, there is connectivity and flow. From these an opportunity for you and your guests to be enchanted, to be a part of an experience you’ll carry away with you. Have you ever been a part of something where you were swept away by your current state that you forgot whatever else was going on in the world? Where it feels like you’re part of something that only matters right then and in that moment? Creating that experience comes from the energy and love put into planning the event.

Lets be friends. No, seriously though, lets!

I do far more than just plan weddings. I travel, I cook, I laugh (a lot), I play, I hike, I challenge myself, I take risks and I am constantly growing. I love people and adventure. I try new things. I am curious. I have high standards. I listen. I create. I do. Take the time to get to know me and I’ll do the same for you. I am highly intuitive with people and take on personal missions to make your wedding the most suited to you and your dreams as possible. The planning process can be overwhelming and overstimulating. Let’s face it, no one wants to do it on their own, so let’s work together!

I am available for weddings in California and worldwide. Fun fact, I am certified by the board of tourism in Mexico to plan and work there. I have spent years visiting the Riviera Maya + Tulum as well as other regions in Mexico, like Baja California Sur. Tulum is hands down one of my favorite places on earth. If I am not in San Francisco planning weddings and being social, you’ll find me on the beach at BeTulum, Coqui Coqui, Papaya Playa, or exploring the coast lines in Central America.

Industrial Wedding in Shreveport

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Brandi Smyth

Today’s wedding, shared with us by the talented Brandi Smyth and Mandy Cathey, brings together the best of industrial and romantic style. Bride Caroline wanted her wedding day to be natural and airy, so an outdoor wedding was the perfect solution. Add in an industrial reception space with lofty ceilings and plenty of windows, and you’ve got a beautiful day for the books.

From the bride, Caroline: We were going for a traditional southern wedding! With it being April and an outside wedding we wanted everything to be natural and airy. Our color scheme was mint green and cream with blush and gold accents. We didn’t have much DIY going on! I’m not very crafty and was finishing up dental school while planning the wedding. We did incorporate a lot of pieces that belong to family members. The buffet at the altar is my mom’s and the china on the wedding party table was my great grandmothers! One DIY project my mom did for me was the picture charms tied on my bouquet of family members that had passed away and couldn’t be there with us!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice to couples planning now would be don’t get bogged down with the details. At the end of our planning there were several small details I wanted and almost gave up on but am so glad I stuck to what I wanted! It made our day much more personal and our guests really appreciated the small touches!

Organic Sophistication in Venice Beach

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Ashley Kelemen

“Romance with a touch of edginess” is how the event designer behind today’s shoot describes her vision, and to say mission accomplished is a true understatement. Ashley Kelemen, Belle Destination Weddings & Events, and Sweet Marie Designs took a color palette of slate grey, deep reds, and light pinks and built a modern weddingscape around it, and we can’t help but fall head over heels in love with the result.

From the event designer, Belle Destination Weddings & Events: The inspiration for the shoot started with the desire to combine modern and classic elements together, fusing romance with a touch of edginess. The 3 story state of the art industrial mini-mansion at 800Main in the heart of Venice Beach California was a perfect starting point. The space is vast and offers many separate areas to host a ceremony, cocktail and dinner reception.

To set the vibe of the dinner table, we chose to incorporate a base of charcoal colors for the table linen and chairs while softening up the look with layering a lighter and billowed runner down the center. The asymmetrical floral centerpiece gorgeously designed by Sweet Marie Designs graced the table with pops of rich burgundy colors fading into softer and lighter hues, ending with a cascade of greenery down one side of the table offering a little touch of “wild”.

For the table top decor, we wanted to incorporate a mixed metals look using golds brass, and mercury tones. We did this by bringing in modern gold place card holders, brass flatware & candle holders and mercury votives. An eclectic collection of vintage china displaying a mix of metallic detail paired with smokey charcoal goblets added the perfect compliment to the table setting. The place cards and dinner menus designed by Erica Keuter Designs displaying ripped edges provided the final touch.

This simple yet striking dress allowed Stephanie to be adorned with delicate gold and diamond jewels by Sofia Kamen. We couldn’t take our eyes off of the one-of-a-kind vintage decadence engagement ring which was just the right amount of bling!
