From the event designers, Perfectly Poised Events: Romantic strolls through its picturesque streets, vibrant accents of floral and scenery, citrus adorned cocktails and tempting tapas, the stylistic charm of its people, and something dreamy in the air – made Spain the perfect palette for our expressive wedding inspiration. Keeping old world elements in mind, we felt it necessary to bring in vintage textures of lace and suede, vivacious blooms, and a captivating degree of emerald gemstones. Appealing to the modern-day bride, we tied in the effortless beauty of bohemian style with flowing fabrics, natural and eclectic decor, and a simplistic allover bridal glow. When deciding upon the perfect setting for our shoot, we landed within the free-spirited vibes of the Mojave Desert. The end result – pure magic. ‘Damas y Caballeros’, we introduce to you our “Spanish Bohemian Boda”!
Nestled amongst Joshua trees in the warmth of California sun, with occasional gusts of wind disrupting pure silence – sits the most majestic location to host a celebration of love. In the midst of this desert oasis their love story begins with an intimate first look as they embrace the most magical day of their lives. String lights hanging overhead the extravagant open-air pavilion creating the most heart melting vignette for a Bride and her groom to say ‘I Do’. A quaint courtyard lined with 80-year old Olive trees and stone walls enclose the Spanish-inspired dining experience. Dessert tapas line the table with the boldly dressed cake sitting center stage. The salvaged stone walls of The Ruin offer a blank slate for our romantic sweetheart setup complete with deep blue burning candles and fierce moody florals. As the sun set and thousands of stars filled the night sky, the mood stayed surreal and romance continuously filled the air.
Paper Goods + Calligraphy: “The Invitation Suite hosts colors and textures of Spanish nature with an added bohemian flair. Starting with a hand-stitched leather outer envelope featuring cognac suede fringe and navy brush lettering. We then combine an emerald green inner envelope with an indigo watercolor liner which holds the silver foiled invitation. The custom watercolor map features hand drawn landmarks around the Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley areas like Pappy & Harriets, the Cabazon Dinosaurs, Frontier Cafe, Pioneertown, and of course, The Ruin Venue. The response card also features brush lettering and silver foil accents. Menus coordinate back to the invitation with white brush lettering on cranberry cardstock with silver foil flecks. Coordinating with the outer envelope, are the white leather name tags hanging from a lovely white stone foiled in silver and wrapped in gold wire. The Bar menu was created from three different shapes of leather in the color palette from our event and features white brush lettering showcasing PTY Bar’s delicious libations.” -Brittany De Ridder, Studio BDR
Eclectic rentals from Sundrop Vintage were used throughout each vignette including: A fabulous emerald green velvet sofa with Spanish/Bohemian furnishings in the Cocktail Lounge, intricate wood shelving with various metals and floral etched glassware for Bar, a mixture of silver/brass and wood dinnerware with crystal and vintage glassware atop the elegant floor seated Dining, a classic Spanish bull taxidermy sitting alongside brass lanterns and a 60 year old brass headboard for Sweetheart setup, and a vast array of cowhides and bohemian pillows in our inviting Ceremony lounge. Rogue & Fox stole the show with their gorgeous custom built ceremony altar creating an exclusive backdrop for our sunset nuptials.
Cake + Desserts: “When Laura came to me saying she wanted to do a Spanish dessert tapas menu- well let’s just say she had me at tapas! I incorporated traditional flavors into a selection of small bites including Mango Flan Panna Cotta Cups, Tres Leches cupcakes, Churro Bites with spiced chocolate dipping sauce, and Dulce de Leche truffles. For the cake, I kept it clean and simple with 3 tall, elegant tiers accented with textured silver leaf – creating the perfect canvas for a dramatic cascade of deep red florals.” -Rachel Chan, Elise Cakes
Bar Service: “With Spanish influences in mind, we custom tailored an exquisite cocktail selection using Malahat Rum, Bourbon, and Apple Brandy. We incorporated traditional flavors one would encounter in an open air Spanish market: Exotic teas, honey, ginger, vanilla beans and of course a healthy dose of citrus including lemon, lime, and Valencia orange. For technique we infused apricot spiced tea into bourbon to give it more profile and go for that spice market feel. Shaking each cocktail with citrus was nod to Spanish agriculture as well as the long naval tradition of warding off scurvy. Oversized Ice cubes were chipped using our antique bar spoon to carefully shape the cube to size. We use the larger blocks as they do not dilute the cocktail and preserve the flavor profile.” -Stephen O’halloran, Please and Thank You Bar
Floral Design: “Inspired by the vibrant colors of Spain, Madrid in particular- we designed our florals to tell a story of their own. We feel florals should be effortless and convey a feeling of nostalgia. When we planned our tablescape, we wanted a timeless feeling that felt inviting. The richness of the deeper tones entrance you and take you on a journey to another place- perhaps across the sea to Spain.” -Drew Rios, Rogue & Fox Floral Co
Our bride stayed true to bohemian style and walked barefoot throughout the day in three gorgeous gowns from Lovely Bride. Rue De Seine‘s Fox Gown was worn during the exclusive First Look, followed by a stunning two-piece combination by Noel and Jean for our swanky Cocktail Hour. Ceremony and Reception were accompanied by the dreamy final look with Rue de Seine’s 2017 Woodrose Gown.
Hair + Makeup: “For the bridal makeup we wanted to capture the warmth of the desert around us by sticking with a neutral palette. We used golden tones, warm browns, burnt orange, and rich purple hues as evening approached. Hair was styled ultra Bohemian with a lot of fun texture to match the surroundings. We incorporated some of Erin Fader‘s custom bridal jewelry into each look such as the emerald gemstone headband adorning the stunning loose braid for First Look and vintage gold midi rings weaved throughout her twisted top knot for “Cocktail Hour”. Throughout the day each style brought this romantic love story to life.” -Ashley and Tommie, Dollhouse Hair and Makeup Design
